When Plans Break, Ep 2 – Suzanne

What’s your favourite N64 game? That’s like asking what your favourite
child is. I’ve always been into games
RPGs, MMO’s, first-person shooters,
adventure games. When I’m in the zone I
can be sitting there playing for three hours and I’ll only think it’s been like
15 minutes. So I usually forget to eat, like drink
water. There’s so much philosophy and
psychology behind games I thought that was just so interesting, so I started a
gaming degree. Everything was
great in my life except it just really felt like there was something
that was missing. Whilst I was doing the
degree I found that I wasn’t playing games and I wasn’t doing the things that
I loved. I felt like a failure. A tattoo
artist I knew from Brisbane was coming to Melbourne but the only time they had
available was clashing with one of my classes so I decided to skip class which
is completely logical right? We talked
about how he sort of followed his passion and tattooing and how we had to step out of
your box to do something you really enjoyed. That conversation really changed
my mind and made me want to change my path. After that I changed degrees so now
I’m studying design and photography at Swinburne. I’m so happy that I’ve made the
change because it’s really given me a sense of purpose and direction in life. The game’s degree was an amazing degree
but sometimes something that you enjoy doing for fun doesn’t translate into
a career. I’ve followed my instincts and
because of that I’m now doing something I really enjoy.
