Royal Uk – Why Nicholas Witchell broke down on BBC News – as fans raise health concerns

Nicholas Witchell sparked concerns about his health when he had a ‘meltdown’ on last night’s BBC News while reporting on the birth of the royal baby  The Beeb’s royal correspondent was in the middle of a live broadcast outside Buckingham Palace in London when he suddenly stopped, apologised and looked confused  And while many of the veteran broadcaster’s fans saw his behaviour as a red flag, suggesting he could even have had a minor stroke while on air, Nicholas’ colleague has revealed the real reason behind his odd moment  For all the latest royal baby updates, follow our live blog here.    Paul Royall, the editor of BBC News At Six and Ten, tweeted to say: “For those asking about Nick Witchell – he’s absolutely fine Highly unusually for Nick he lost his train of thought on the BBCNewsTen and decided to hand back to the studio  “This can happen sometimes even to the most experienced and respected in busy live news broadcasting ”  His explanation was met with relief and frustration that such an experienced journalist had been left outside the palace for hours to fill air time with minor details about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry – the Duchess and Duke of Sussex – and their brand new Baby Sussex son  Viewers were quick to notice the awkward blunder, and took to Twitter to share their thoughts and concerns for his wellbeing  One concerned viewer said: “Just seen Nicholas Witchell on a live  BBC  news broadcast,he had to pass back to the studio, one of the most experienced presenters so it wasn’t nerves etc, before he gets panned online can everyone at least wait until he is confirmed ok, he deserves that ”  Another said: “What just happened with Nicholas Witchell on the news at ten? he seemed to lose his train of thought on a couple of occasions during his report and ended up referring back to the studio without completing his report Hope he’s ok, it sounded like he took a funny turn live on air”  BBC colleague Jeremy Bowen weighed in to defend him, posting: “I’ve seen some snide comments about Nick Witchell Please stop, they’re not deserved. He’s a respected and experienced broadcaster, doing his job I don’t know what happened tonight but it’s certainly no reason to be nasty.”
