Prague Alternative Tour presented in Czech Television – Studio 6 News

Prague for tourists — but completely differently – from another point of view than in conventional tourist guides and guidebooks. The Alternative Prague. With its galleries, clubs or places for graffiti. This is how project Alternative Tours presents our capital city of Prague. We have started PAT project with Thomas last year… We decided that we want to show the tourists something more than just Prague Castle and Charles Bridge, because I traveled around the world and I met a lot of people from Australia, from America and so on, who told me that Prague is so beautiful city but it’s boring also and when we showed them the things we do, they didn’t believe that it is in Prague. I showed them the different places that are in this town and they couldn’t believe either so it was one of the reasons why we started doing PAT. We start our tour in the city-center, because we talk about the history of the city there, as the history affected even the young generation here and artists in general. So we start in the center by the Powder Tower and then we go through the New Town to Karlin. There we show the tourists how Prague changed after the floods – the environment, the people and the culture in general. We go to different galleries, we strive to support interesting galleries we like, so we go to the places like: Jiří Švestka, DOX , Karlin Studios. We talk about a lot of other galleries plus we also recommend different exhibitions during our tour and then the tour is obviously focused on graffiti and street art, so we visit Těšnov -the first legal graffiti zone in Prague. After that we go to the Libeň District where Trafačka is – this is the most alternative art space in Prague. Basically the all over motto of the project is to promote local culture and art, and the artists directly and try to somehow connect it all with the world. We try to focus on the important moments of our history that influenced the culture and mainly the young generation and those young artists. We also want to explain why they express themselves the way they do. Whether it’s David Černý or Ztohoven – all of them have some connection with the history. So we talk a lot about communism, that influenced even our generation, but we even say for instance that there are plenty of people who don’t believe in God here in Czech and stuff like that because in order to be able to understand the culture here we find this knowledge pretty essential. We can often see that the tourists are very surprised that people here are so open mind. At the same time we are pleased that even people from the Czech Republic or even from Prague come to our tour. That’s great! People that think they know this place, then find through our website (www.PragueAlternativeTours.cz) that they actually don’t and want to know the local art community at Trafačka or want to learn more about the gallery DOX or club Cross, so that’s cool too. The average age of our tourists is about 25 – 30 years, sometimes even younger. But for example recently I had a 70- year-old couple from Australia. And They enjoyed it also 🙂
