Microsoft’s latest privacy policy says vendors listen to voice data

THESE TYPE OF PACKS HAVE PLAYED OTHER CITIES AND TOWNS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. ARTHEL: MICROSOFT IS THE LATEST TECH GIANT TO COME AT A SCREEN GIANTS REPORT SAID THEY WERE GIVING THIRD-PARTY VENDORS ACCESS TO INFORMATION. THIS ON THE HEELS OF NEW REVELATIONS ABOUT FACEBOOK. MULTIPLE REPORTS SAYING THE WORLDS LARGEST SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM HIRED CONTRACTORS TO TRANSCRIBE AUDIO FROM VOICE CHATS. NEW STUDIES RELEASED THIS WEEK ALSO SPOTLIGHT PRIVACY CONCERNS WITH POPULAR DATING APPS AND BLUETOOTH TECHNOLOGY. HOW CAN AMERICANS PROTECT THEIR PERSONAL INFORMATION AND HOW SHOULD CONGRESS RESPOND TO PRIVACY CONCERNS? LET’S DISCUSS THIS. THIS IS A CYBER TERRORISM ANALYST AND SENIOR FELLOW AT THE CENTER FOR DIGITAL GOVERNMENT PIERS MORGAN FIRST OF ALL, TELL US HOW THESE TECH GIANTS ARE COLLECTING AND USING OUR INFORMATION.>>WITH THEIR OWN PERMISSION, I MEAN IT IS A SELF-INFLICTED WOUND. PEOPLE HAVE TO REALIZE WHEN IT’S FOR YOU ARE THE PRODUCT BEING SOLD. ALL OF YOUR CONVERSATIONS AND DATE ARE BEING HARVESTED BY WHAT THEY CALL FACEBOOK, AMAZON, APPLE, NETFLIX, GOOGLE. THE STUFF IS BEING TRANSLATED INTO DOLLARS AND MICROSOFT IS NOT THE ONLY COMPANY DOING THIS. AND IT SEEMS TO BE WE ARE TRANSCRIBING OR TAKING DATA, LISTENING ON YOUR CONVERSATIONS AND TRANSCRIBING IT. THE PROBLEM IS FAR MORE PERVASIVE THAN IT SEEMS AND MORE COUPLES ARE DOING IS NOT JUST THE ONES WE TALKED ABOUT HERE. IT’S A BIG PROBLEM IN THE TECH INDUSTRY. ARTHEL: ARE THEY VIOLATING PRIVACY RESTRICTIONS? AND IF SO WHY DOES IT CONTINUE?>>YOU KNOW, THAT IS A REAL QUESTION. DO THEY VIOLATE PRIVACY RESTRICTIONS? UNDER THE HAND ESSAY SHOULDN’T TAKE A COMPUTER SCIENCE AND LAW DEGREE TO FIGURE WHAT THEY’RE DOING WITH MY INFORMATION. THEY CAN AND SHOULD MAKE IT EASILY UNDERSTOOD. THEY DO NOT COME OUT AND BE VERY TRANSPARENT AND SAID THIS IS WHAT WE ARE DOING. AND WHEN THEY DO GET CAUGHT THEY SAY WE WILL MODIFY WHAT WE SAY.NOTHING HAS TO BE VERY CLEAR THEY HAVE TO TELL YOU, WE WILL USE YOUR CONVERSATION, WILL HAVE HUMANS LISTEN TO IT, TRANSCRIBE IT IN ORDER TO DO X, Y, Z AND BY THE WAY WE NEED YOUR PERMISSION FIRST. WHEN THEY START DOING THAT AND THEN THERE’S NO DEFENSE FROM OUR SIDE IF WE ALLOW THEM. RIGHT NOW IT IS SMOKE AND MIRRORS.SPEECHES THAT WERE CONGRESS COMES INTO PLAY? CAN THEY SAY LISTEN, CREATE LAWS, ASK THEM VERY PLAIN AND CLEARLY YOU CAN SWIPE LEFT OR RIGHT.>>ABSOLUTELY. IT STARTS OFF WITH LITIGATION AND REGULATION AND NOTHING IS TIME FOR LEGISLATION. THE SAME OF THE OPINION UNIQUE AMONG GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION WHICH IS, THERE ARE HUGE FINES WITH BREACHES. I THINK GOVERNMENT HAS TO GET INVOLVED IN SAY WE ARE TAKING OVER BECAUSE PRIVACY IS REALLY ABOUT POLICY. IT’S WHAT YOU CAN COLLECT AND WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH WHAT YOU COLLECT SO WE SHOULD BE VERY PRESCRIPTIVE ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN DO AND HAVE TO MAKE IT CLEAR. IT CANNOT BE HIDDEN IN A BUNCH OF LEGAL, THEY HAD TO SAY WE DO ABC WITH XYZ. NOT THAT A HARVARD GRAD NEEDS TO INTERPRET. ARTHEL: IS THERE ANY WAY TO PROTECT YOUR PRIVATE INFORMATION MOVING FORWARD?>>A LOT OF THEM HAS INFORMATION. ONE THING YOU CAN DO IS REALIZE THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS PRIVATE UNLESS YOU DO ENCRYPT AND ONCE IT DOES I SIGNALED IS THAT, IS UP TO THE CONSUMER TO REALLY UNDERSTAND IS IT REALLY ENCRYPTED OR NOT? ARE THEY LOOKING AT IT? MAKE SURE THAT YOU TURN ON PRIVACY SETTINGS. I SAY NO ANYTIME SOME MULTIPLE COOKIES ON THEIR BUDDIES A PAIN BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO CLICK ON THE DIFFERENT THINGS BUT YOU HAVE TO TAKE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION TO QUIT LETTING PEOPLE HARVEST ALL OF YOUR DATA. AT THE END OF THE DAY IT IS — I WANT TO BE A FAIR FIGHT. I KNOW IT IS NOT BECAUSE IT IS THE LANGUAGE. YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT EASY FOR ME TO COMPLY WITH MY WISHES, NOT YOUR WISHES. ARTHEL: WITH THE SERVICE AND HARD DRIVES OF THE TECH –>>EVERYONE WILL BE LOOKING FOR NEW WAYS. WHILE WE ARE STILL FIGHTING THIS IS WHETHER RUSSIA, ALL OF OUR ADVERSARIES ARE LOOKING AT NEW WAYS IT INCLUDES GOING AFTER WHAT WE JUST SAW RANSOMWARE ATTACKS AGAINST GOVERNMENT HUGE TARGET RIGHT NOW. NOW THE ATTACKS ARE ALSO GETTING INTO CLOUD SERVICES. THINGS LIKE AMAZON AND GOOGLE. ALSO GOING AFTER CAN YOU IMAGINE WALKING UP ON FACEBOOK DATA WHAT THEY WILL BE WILLING TO PAY TO GET THAT BACK? YOU BET THEY ARE PRIME TARGETS. ARTHEL: WRAPPING A PIERS MORGAN, YOU SAY CONGRESS SHOULD DO SOMETHING. UNFORTUNATELY THAT DOESN’T HAPPEN QUICKLY.>>ARE PEOPLE QUESTIONING MARK ZUCKERBERG THAT DID NOT EVEN HAVE FACEBOOK MAKES MONEY AND SO WE HAVE HAD PEOPLE MAKING LAWS UNDERSTAND THE THINGS OF THE REGULATING AND NOT LEAVE IT TO STAFFERS IN THE INDUSTRY.

It doesn't really take Harvard grad to figure, just read the long contracts in privacy policy in all this companies. I read some of Apples iphone contract policyand they can legally know your browser data once you press that agree button.

  • The Old Gringo says:

Not a fan of Fox News, but this is a good piece. I fail to understand why congress stands by and watches, they've called Facebook and Google on the carpet far to many times not to have a clue as to what's going on.

  • Why does fox disabled comments on Jeffry??
They are part of the sick people.
At least cnn and other trash are not hiding it lol

  • Instead of fearmongering against gun reform laws, why not fearmongering about the 1st,4th,5th, amendment rights we've already lost with the Patriot & fisa acts?

  • TEMPORARY Trump Tax Cuts for 99% (THAT'S YOU)  is temporary and will expire 2026,
Trump Tax Cuts for Corporation and America's wealthiest is Permanent – PERMANENT!
One minute after December 31, 2025 YOU will have to pay for the one percent. Amazon didn't pay taxes but you will. Happy New Year!?

    THINK 'TRUST BUT verify!'
Trump tells you he was a billionaire before the election and you don't want to verify it! Trust but verify!

The White House wants to gut the nation’s social safety net to give more funding to nation’s defense programs and allow for tax cuts primarily benefiting corporations and America’s wealthiest.

  • I don't know why this is news you people should already know this is going on Google is clearly recording everything we say when we're not even using our devices yeah I found them recording me and just normal conversation with a friend and I believe the government is involved so you know what I don't trust any of these companies I never will especially when the government is allowing them to keep doing it they're not doing anything about it they put them in Congress like they are really going to do something they won't even do anything with the racist that work in Congress let alone some spying on Americans

  • These modern day tech giants are the outlaws that would go around robbing towns in the 1800's wild wild west. They steal identities, thoughts, and ideas. The best way to protect against them is to act like a MIME. Copywrite everything before you spill the beans to your fam and friends. Better yet don't say anything until you are capable of bringing whatever you thought of to life. Use as least amount of words as possible. Basically control your mouth and become a free thinker instead of free talker.

  • Bringer of Balance says:

Not surprised. All liberals just do what they want and get away with it!
What I don’t get is why WE’RE not getting paid? I think they owe US, not the government, Money!!

  • MS is a federal contractor so they’re dealing in classified data too. And worse, the people listening and recording are NOT American.

  • One of the best ways to protect your privacy is not to give out your information to the likes of Facebook etc. In other words, ditch Facebook. I never signed up on Facebook and never will and I have no problems eith Facebook. Its time for regulation breaking up the tech industry. They have proven themselves to be extremely untrustworthy time and time again.

  • Any time I go on a website where I get a pop up about Criteo cookies or any other cookies I close it. Always have always will Don't do business with them.

  • Eric Willoughby says:

Apple is pretty forthcoming when it comes to what they do with your data. I get a popup window when I use Apple products telling me what they would like you to share and not share and make sure you know what's happening and even have ways to stay private. Can't say the same for the other companies…

  • Imo the #1 travesty is we aren't able to be the administrators of our cell phones (w/o flashing) even though we pay for them. That's like buying a desktop or laptop & Microsoft forcing you to let them be the admin of your Windows OS.

  • Has anyone else experienced that the robo calls start after you get out of bed regardless of the time? I live alone and as soon as I start making awakening sounds like bathroom or stairs, my phone rings. Very odd. I don't even have an active cell phone but I do sit on my computer that's in my bedroom. I try and keep my security tight. I cancel sound recorder, microphone…anything that could spy, yet I get these annoying calls as soon as I start stirring. It won't happen until I start my day.

  • The stuff movies are made of!!!!!! Why is Facebook always involved??? Cameras everywhere, data breaches, camera every 1/8 mile. Scary stuff

  • Rust belt Crawling says:

Hillary sold out America with her emails to China what do you expect ?? It wasn't Russia at all !🤣🤣
it was Hillary selling America to China !

  • Archive Manning says:

Microsoft is working against America. They are stealing our data and the R&D center is in a different country meaning our national security will bd compromised in the Pentagons “JEDI CLOUD” contract

  • Chris Elliott, Ph.D says:

I cancelled my facebook account two years ago. I believe the FCC needs to regulate facebook, google, and any other social media.

  • NotImportantJoshHarris* says:

Big Tech: Hey, we’re going to track your every move and place thousands of tiny cameras and microphones all over your house, car, work, road, shared spaces and millions more everywhere else AND place our own satellites equipped with sensors which detect beyond visible light and super sonar capability and the like. But don’t worry we won’t spy or anything.

    Humanity: Hmmm.

Can we still send pictures of our peepees?

Big Tech: Our AI already predicted your answer and we’ve written a thousand page disclaimer saying we own you and your children in perpetuity.

Humanity: Do we need to sign anything?

Big Tech: Nope just tell us you read and click the check box. Don’t forget to buy more butter!

Humanity: How did you— ooh the newest episode of ______ is on!!

Big Tech: Ya the ending is amazing.

Humanity: But it just came out.

Big Tech: Oh, we read the rough draft of the scripts in the studio emails when we were bored.

Humanity: *already checked out watching their screen

Disabled comments on important matters but open comments for this? BS. Americans don't want diversionary propaganda.

  • I know a surefire way to protect yourself from illegal, unwarranted eavesdropping from big tech…
Throw your phones, tv and computers into the pond out back.
This is only going to get worse with every passing second. Look how democrats solely focus on Cambridge Analytica as a "reason to be vigilant". Their little posturing in congress while questioning their whipping boy Zuckerberg is done ONLY because they can apply a Trump angle to it.
Silicon Valley…democrat owned, operated and protected.
And they get to play innocent in congress because Sillyputty Valley is comprised of "private" business and not politicians.

  • Niles Peter Clemens says:

I’m not threatened by this. What the hell are they going to do, laugh at people talking dirty to their laptops when watching porn or something? 99% of all this “data” they collect from microphones is useless garbage. People joking around, muttering, babbling, talking to themselves about their stupid relatives, etc.

  • Metal Terminator says:

President Trump is the greatest president in human history! There should be a statue of him on the front lawn of every home of every person on the planet!

  • Adolfo J Barreto says:

I respect the technology. I am able to speak to people from Cambodia, Vietnam, South Korea, Brazil, Portugal, Germany, France, and it does not stop there. I wonder, my amazing talking heads, how do you think that technology's been refined? I believe that what you are doing is selling fear. Wrong country, this is the home of the BRAVE. We are at the cusp of a revolution in technology. If you do not understand how it works or why it is employed, why should I listen to you? Also, what have you to fear? No one is interested in what your "flavor of porn!"

  • Woe really dam no data or user is safe when comes privacy it’s all about making billions of dollars 💵 data truly is a security threat to protection and users are stuck on not knowing what’s going on with sensitive information! I guess the laws need to be much more stronger to protect the user on any websites with data!! Policy is strong but it depends on the measures of legal practices.

  • Cybercrime hackers and others on yea data is open source more closed sources so users need to be more protected by understanding security or encryption data technology

  • Russell Decker says:

The fact is these high tech companies have been doing this since their inception. What you people don’t, understand is that these high tech companies believe they are the new world government and all other currently in place governments around the world are inferior in technology so the tech giants believe they can do whatever they want….because the rest of us are just too stupid to stop them….

  • Remember when MS let NSA listen to console gamers thru their Kinect on Xbox One? That was hilarious, and the reason I got PlayStation 4, the best gaming console ever made.

  • It is a federal offense a postal worker to open the mail. It is a federal offense for anyone to perform wiretapping and listening to phone conversations without a legal warrant.

The same laws must also apply to social media websites, cell phones, and messaging systems.

The federal government must put an end to this activity.

And yes I know the federal government is slow to respond, but with public pressure it will get done

  • My Xbox automatically turns on when I enter the house without me telling it anything. Pretty obvious it is listening all the time

  • Come on fox. Where is the story of the white chick in Arkansas that held four black highschool kids at gun point for going door to door selling tickets to raise money for their football team?

  • SanAntonioSlim says:

Our politicians will do nothing. They are in the pockets of Big Tech. The FANGs have sunk deep and are sucking us dry.

  • Lets all see Donnie diapers HS and college grade transcripts???? The self proclaimed genius hides them. WHY??? They can't be anymore embarrassing and disgusting than his sexual assaults and fraudulent taxes. Can they????????

  • Something really bad is going to happen to these CEO GUYS and family's, people are getting sick and tired of their privacy been exploited, take responsibility of your actions, people are going to snap.

  • Brave Sir Robin says:

I wonder what gives these tech companies the right to collect any private data at all. How is any wording on OUR information even allowed to be part of a user policy? AT&T couldn't record every phone call in the 80s and if they did if the evidence was collected without a warrant it would be inadmissible. That f*cking Patriot Act would be my guess. I think Benjamin Franklin said it best, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

  • Elishia Montenegro says:

so! its not my imagination, I contacted the minister for business about fees ebay charges that doesn't disclose in their explanation pages, my ebay page has once again gone invisible, first time is when I started talking to ebay about this. This lasted about two weeks. Their explanation didn't satisfy me, so I contacted the minister. Once again the page is invisible. basically ebay are thugs and thieves and that's how they liked to stay it seems.

  • And I think it's time for some major lawsuits….infringing on privacy, and spying, and breaking multiple laws….our politicians damned sure arent doing anything!

  • It is just about time ….we will be harvested for the body heat for power generation shown in matrix …..in near future now that they are harvesting they brain power or conversation….imagine a sensor or smartphone working implanted in body works on body heat and then our data is tapped through nueral network no need to talk just think and give them power to extract our energy (intellectual and physical) for big data analytics….coming from an engineer

  • How can a person protect it's privacy, you see a site selling "chewing gum" you want to check how much it costs; but for that they want your name, email, address, age……."what do you do, your measurements…LOL…" and you need to subscribe and set a password.

  • It's simple. Don't use Microsoft, Google, or Facebook. Simply assume that your online presence is being monitored for the benefit of other, wealthier, more powerful people.

  • Rabinowitz Shekelstein says:

This is why the elites are selling the American IT sector to street shitters from India. No morals when it comes to surveillance and data of users.

  • NO! don't make it clear they can use our info. Make a law they cannot use our info at all they cannot listen into what we say at all! Right to privacy!!!

  • Vincent Blanchard says:

Do people notice the price of free is increasing? Bring all these people before congress and regulate the hell out of them. This is insane.

  • Leeneshwar Vikram Shah says:

As part of the Anti-trust measures against Global Tech companies, it should be an implied iron-clad assumption that consumer’s Data is Not being shared with any third party vendors & associates other than their own Government. The same should be expressed in their encyclopaedic registration agreements or could just be a one liner in Bold letters under the ‘I Agree’ icon. Even Hardware & Telecom companies should clearly state vendor information and make a similar upfront declaration before the equipment goes online. For the time being Apps should only seek cloud services of established Silicon Valley Tech companies who have their servers located in USA and never share customers data with shadowy ISPs that openly exist but operate in a clandestine manner.
