Kingi Kiriona appointed to Māori Television Service board

A former Maori broadcaster
who’s known for his commitment to te reo, Kingi Kiriona, has been appointed to the
Maori Television Service board. And as political reporter
Eruera Rerekura found out, the former critic of Maori TV says he’s moved on since then and looks forward
to working closely with the network. He’s the new board member
for the Maori Television service. He’s a person
who is very knowledgeable about Maori broadcasting. I’m really happy and humbled
to be appointed to this position. The Chief Executive
of Te Matawai says he has an impressive range
of skills. He’s a person who is totally
committed to the language and he’s known for his skills
such is in Maori performing arts and the broadcasting industry. For Mr Kiriona,
he’s pleased with his new position. I’m happy, but happy
with a humble heart because I know there’s a lot of work
in front of me. I’m there for Te Matawai, I’m there for the people
and I’m there for the language. When Te Matatini
was held in Christchurch, he criticised Maori Television
in a haka he composed, but he says the world’s
moved on since then. Yes, two to three years ago it all
came out in my haka about MTS, for me I’m over that now
I had the chance to get my thoughts and concerns out about MTS
and now time to collaborate with MTS and find solutions and remedies. For us at Te Matawai
that all water under the bridge, a new day has dawn and the name of
the day is all about the language. Mr Kiriona will officially start
in his role on the 10th of April for a three year term. Eruera Rerekura, Te Karere.
