Jury Delivers Bill Cosby Sex Assault Verdict | NBC News

I’M SORRY, KATE, I KEEP INTERRUPTING YOU. WE WERE TALKING ABOUT WHAT THE WOMEN WANT TO SEE.>>I THINK THE BIG THING THEY WANTED TO SEE WAS JUSTICE. THEY’RE NOW TEXTING ME SAYING, YES, THIS WAS JUSTICE. AND I THINK THERE IS ALSO A FIGHT, KATY, THAT MANY OF THESE WOMEN HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH SINCE COMING FORWARD WITH THESE ALLEGATIONS, MANY OF THEM REALLY TALKING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2014 AND 2015. THEY NOW WANT TO SEE THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS CHANGED IN ALL STATES. THEY’VE DONE SO IN CALIFORNIA. THEY CHANGED — THERE’S NOW NO LONGER A STATUTE ON RAPE MOVING FORWARD. SO IF SOMEONE IS RAPED, THEY HAVE FOREVER TO FILE THAT CRIMINAL COMPLAINT. IN MANY STATES THOUGH, AS YOU KNOW, IN PENNSYLVANIA, IT IS 12 YEARS STILL, AND IN OTHER STATES IT IS VARIOUS AMOUNTS WHERE YOU CAN’T FILE A CHARGE AFTER CERTAIN WINDOW OF TIME. SO THEY’RE TRYING TO CHANGE THAT. THEY CHANGED IT IN COLORADO. THEY CHANGED IT IN NEVADA. THEY WERE PART OF THE TESTIMONY BEFORE THOSE LEGISLATURES AND A LOT OF THE WOMEN WHO SAY THEY WERE VICTIMIZED BY BILL COSBY NOW SAY THEY WANT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT FIGHT.>>WE JUST SAW COSBY’S LEGAL TEAM WALKING BY THE CAMERAS JUST THERE, TOM MESEREAU LOOKING DEJECTED. I WANT TO READ SOME NOTES WE JUST GOT FROM OUR REPORTERS INSIDE THE COURTROOM. UPON READING OF THE FIRST GUILTY VERDICT, SEVERAL OF COSBY’S ALLEGED PRIOR VICTIMS, INCLUDING LILY BERNARD WHO WERE SITTING IN THE BACK OF THE COURTROOM SHRIEKED AND SHOOK WITH JOY. THEY WERE ASKED TO LEAVE THE COURTROOM. COSBY LOOKED DOWN BUT NO VISIBLE REACTION FROM HIM. ANDREA CONSTAND MAINTAINED HER POKER FACE. THE PROSECUTION, SUPPORT TEAM, SQUEEZED EACH OTHER’S HANDS AND LOOKED VISIBLY RELIEVED. JUDGE THANKS JURORS FOR THEIR EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE. ALSO A COUPLE MORE NOTES. THE JUDGE WANTED TO KNOW WHERE COSBY’S PASSPORT WAS. WANTS TO KNOW WHERE COSBY LIVES, AS HE HAS SEVERAL RESIDENCES. HE’S APPARENTLY GOING TO BE GOING TO ONE OF HIS RESIDENCES.>>HE ALSO HAS A PRIVATE PLANE, KATY.>>HE DOES. SO THE JUDGE SAYS — BECAUSE THE PROSECUTION SAYS THERE ARE SERIOUS FELONY COUNTS. HE’S GOT UNLIMITED WEALTH. NO AMOUNT OF BAIL COULD ASSURE HIS PRESENCE. THERE ARE SERIOUS COUNTS THAT CARRY SERIOUS JAIL TIME. A VIOLENT PREDATOR. ASSESSMENT NEEDS TO BE DONE. PROSECUTION SAYS HE THINKS COSBY WILL FLEE. THE JUDGE SAYS WHAT EVIDENCE DO YOU HAVE THAT HE WILL FLEE? WHAT IS YOUR CONCERN? THE PROSECUTION SAYS HE HAS A PLANE. COSBY YELLS OUT, A ACCORDING TO THESE NOTES, HE DOESN’T HAVE A PLANE, YOU A-HOLE — I CAN’T SAY THE WORD ON TELEVISION. I MEAN IT SOUNDS LIKE IT GOT PRETTY DRAMATIC INSIDE THAT COURTROOM, KATE.>>IT SURE SOUNDS THAT WAY. I HAPPENED TO BE IN NEW YORK TODAY, KATY. I WAS THERE TWO DAYS AGO FOR THE CLOSING ARGUMENTS. I WILL TELL YOU, THERE WAS A DECORUM ORDER FOR NOT JUST THE MEDIA BUT ANYONE IN THE COURTROOM WAS TOLD BY THE JUDGE TO RESTRAIN THEMSELVES. WHEN YOU SAY ANDREA CONSTAND DIDN’T REACT, I CAN IMAGINE THAT’S BECAUSE SHE KNEW EVERYONE WAS LOOKING AT HER. YOU DON’T WANT ANYTHING TO LEAD TO A MISTRIAL. YOU DON’T WANT ANY MISSTEPS. THEN AGAIN, SOME OF THE OTHER WOMEN, DID YELL OUT. I’M NOT SURPRISED TO HEAR THAT LILY BERNARD YELLED OUT. SHE HAS BEEN THERE EVERY SINGLE DAY, THROUGH THIS TRIAL, EVERY SINGLE DAY THROUGH THE LAST TRIAL. SHE IS ONE OF THE WOMEN THAT I INTERVIEWED IN THAT LARGE “DATELINE” INTERVIEW, KATY. HER STORY IS ONE OF — SHE ALLEGES THAT BILL COSBY RAPED HER. IT IS A VERY BRUTAL — BRUTALLY DIFFICULT STORY TO HEAR. I ENCOURAGE ANYBODY WHO HASN’T SEEN YOUR STORY TO GO BACK AND LOOK AT IT. YOU WON AWARDS FOR IT AND YOU DESERVE THEM BECAUSE THOSE STORIES WERE POWERFUL AND IN ORDER TO REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THESE WOMEN, WITH THIS VERDICT, THIS GUILTY VERDICT MEANS FOR THESE WOMEN, THAT STORY IS SOMETHING THAT YOU SHOULD JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO WATCH. LET’S — WE’RE GOING TO BRING IN OUR LEGAL ANALYST, DANNY CEVALLOS, WHO’S IN MANHATTAN. ALSO LISA GREEN IN NEW YORK. DANNY, I KNOW YOU HAVE BEEN COVERING THE COHEN TRIAL SO I’M GOING TO HAVE YOU PUT YOUR GENERAL LAWYER HAT ON AND TALK TO ME ABOUT YOUR REACTION TO THIS COSBY VERDICT.>>I DON’T NEED MY GENERAL HAT ACTUALLY. I PRACTICE IN THAT COURTHOUSE IN NORRISTOWN. I’VE BEEN THERE FOR YEARS. AND SO I’M FAMILIAR WITH IT. AND I HAVE COVERED THIS CASE OVER THE LAST COUPLE YEARS. SO I HAVE TO TELL YOU, IT IS A VERY SURPRISING VERDICT ONLY BECAUSE EITHER VERDICT, GUILT OR NOT GUILTY, WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY SURPRISING. BUT ONE CAN’T HELP BUT WONDER IF THE FIVE ADDITIONAL WOMEN THAT THE JUDGE PERMITTED TO TESTIFY WAS WHAT TOOK IT OVER THE EDGE FROM WHAT LAST YEAR WAS A JURY THAT COULD NOT REACH A DECISION OR A VERDICT ON A CASE LIKE THIS. IT COULD ALSO BE THAT THE DEFENSE IN THIS TIME AROUND WAS VERY, VERY AGGRESSIVE, ATTACKING ANDREA CONSTAND, CALLING HER A CONARTIST, AN EFFECTIVE TECHNIQUE IF YOU WANT TO CAST DOUBT ON CREDIBILITY OF THE WITNESS. BUT SOME JURORS MAY HAVE PERCEIVED THAT AS AN UNJUSTIFIED ATTACK ON A VICTIM. ALWAYS A RISK WHEN YOU ATTACK THE CREDIBILITY OF A SEX CRIME’S VICTIM LIKE THIS. AND WHILE BILL COSBY IS TECHNICALLY LOOKING AT 30 YEARS, WHICH WOULD BE THREE CONSECUTIVE TEN-YEAR SENTENCES AS A MAXIMUM, THAT’S NOT REALLY LIKELY. IN COMMON PLEAS COURT, UNDER THE PENNSYLVANIA SENTENCING GUIDELINES, A DEFENDANT LIKE COSBY WITH NO PRIOR RECORD AND A REAL HISTORY OF CHARITABLE WORKS CAN MAKE A STRONG ARGUMENT FOR A GUIDELINES SENTENCE IN THE RANGE OF 22 MONTHS, AND MAYBE EVEN LESS THAN THAT. PLUS, IN ALL LIKELIHOOD UNDER PENNSYLVANIA SENTENCING GUIDELINES, HE IS HEADED TO A PENNSYLVANIA STATE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY.>>DANNY, THIS TRIAL WAS ONLY ABOUT ONE WOMAN, ANDREA CONSTAND. BUT 29 OTHER WOMEN HAD ACCUSED HIM. HOW MUCH DID THEIR STORIES PLAY IN TO THIS? FIVE WOMEN TESTIFIED AT THIS TRIAL.>>WE HOPE THAT THE 29 WOMEN DIDN’T FACTOR INTO THE TRIAL BECAUSE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN KEPT FROM THE JURY. OF COURSE THE FIVE PRIOR BAD ACTS EVIDENCE WOMEN THAT WERE PERMITTED TO TESTIFY UNQUESTIONABLY HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE TRIAL. AND THAT IS A HUGE CHANGE FROM LAST YEAR’S DECISION. AND THE ARGUMENT IS THAT PENNSYLVANIA’S LAWS CHANGED SLIGHTLY IN THE YEAR SINCE. ALTHOUGH AS A CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY, I WOULD SAY THAT THE ADMISSION OF THIS PRIOR BAD ABTS EVIDENCE GETS IMPERMISSIBLY CLOSE TO CHARACTER EVIDENCE. IN OTHER WORDS, THE EVIDENCE THAT COSBY DID THIS KIND OF THING BEFORE MAY HAVE, TO THE JURORS, ALLOWED THEM TO CONCLUDE, HEY, IF HE DID IT BEFORE, HE MUST HAVE DONE IT THIS TIME. THE EVIDENCE IS REALLY SUPPOSED TO BE ADMITTED TO SHOW A MODUS OPERANDI, THAT THIS IS ALLEGEDLY HOW COSBY USUALLY COMMITTED THESE ASSAULTS.>>DANNY, HANG ON A SECOND. JOSEPH CAMARADA IS CALLING US RIGHT NOW, HE REPRESENTS SEVEN COSBY ACCUSERS WHO ARE SUING MR. COSBY FOR DEFAMATION. JOSEPH, WHAT’S YOUR REACTION?>>IT’S A POWERFUL REBUKE OF BILL COSBY’S CLAIM TO INNOCENCE. THE JURY NOW IS HOLDING MR. COSBY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE CRIMES HE COMMITTED AGAINST ANDREA CONSTAND.>>HOLD ON, JOSEPH. THIS IS ONE OF THE COSBY ACCUSERS TALKING RIGHT NOW.>>IT MEANS THAT THE JUSTICE SYSTEM IS FINALLY PAYING ATTENTION. THEY’RE FINALLY LISTENING AND THEY’RE FINALLY MOVING FORWARD. AND HEARING WOMEN’S VOICES. WE ARE NOT INVISIBLE ANYMORE.>>YOUR REACTION TO MR. COSBY’S OUTBURST IN COURT?>>I WENT OUTSIDE AND SAT IN THE SUN FOR A MINUTE AND CAME IN TO IT. SO I DIDN’T KNOW. I’M WAITING TO HEAR OVER A GLASS OF CHAMPAGNE.>>ARE YOU SURPRISED THE JURY CAME BACK THIS QUICKLY?>>YEAH, ACTUALLY I AM. I WAS STEELING MYSELF FOR A MISTRIAL. AND I’M SO GRATEFUL — >>DID YOU SAY ANYTHING TO ANDREA?>>NO, I HAVEN’T. BUT I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH HER MOTHER. AND MOTHER TO MOTHER, OUR HEARTS ARE WHOLE.>>THE MOTHER SAID BEFORE THE VERDICT, JUST HOPING AND PRAYING.>>WERE YOU SURPRISED AT ALL — WERE YOU SURPRISED BY THE VERDICT AT ALL? OBVIOUSLY THIS COULD HAVE GONE EITHER WAY.>>YOU’RE RIGHT, I EXPECTED A MISTRIAL THIS TIME AND I WAS STEELING MYSELF FOR IT. BUT JUSTICE AT LAST.>>WHEN YOU HEARD THAT FIRST GUILTY, WHAT WENT THROUGH YOUR MIND? WHAT WAS IN YOUR HEART?>>I WAS OUTSIDE IN THE PARK AND I SAW THE CROWD. I WAS ACROSS THE STREET. I WAS SO SHOCKED AND SURPRISED.>>LILY BERNARD, CAROLYN HELLMAN.>>THAT’S VICTORIA VALENTINO, FORMER PLAYBOY BUNNY WHO HAS ACCUSED BILL COSBY OF RAPE. HER ALLEGATIONS DATE BACK TO THE 1960s. SHE’S OBVIOUSLY VERY HAPPY ABOUT THIS VERDICT. SHE SAID IT WAS SURPRISING THAT THE JURY CAME BACK SO QUICKLY. LET’S GO BACK TO JOSEPH, THE LAWYER FOR A NUMBER OF THE OTHER ACCUSERS. JOSEPH, I’M SORRY I INTERRUPTED YOU A LITTLE BIT EARLIER.>>THAT’S QUITE ALL RIGHT.>>WHAT IS YOUR REACTION AGAIN?>>AS I SAID — >>I’M SORRY, JOSEPH. WE’RE GOING TO LISTEN IN AGAIN. WE HAVE MORE ACCUSERS.>>I FEEL LIKE I’M DREAMING. I FEEL LIKE I’M DREAMING. I FEEL LIKE MY — CAN YOU HOLD ON? I’M TRYING TO ANSWER A QUESTION, PLEASE. I FEEL LIKE MY FAITH IN HUMANITY IS RESTORED. THIS IS A VICTORY. NOT JUST FOR THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA, NOT JUST FOR THE VICTIM IN THE CASE, ANDREA CONSTAND, NOT JUST FOR THE 62 OF US PUBLICLY KNOWN SURVIVORS OF BILL COSBY’S DRUG FACILITATED SEXUAL CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN, BUT IT IS ALSO A VICTORY FOR ALL SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS. I THANK THE JURY SO MUCH FOR POSITIONING THEMSELVES ON THE RIGHT SIDE.>>WHAT WENT THROUGH YOUR MIND WHEN YOU HEARD GUILTY?>>IT WAS NOT THE VERDICT I WAS EXPECTING. JUST OVER ELATED.>>THAT WAS ANOTHER COSBY ACCUSER, LILLY BERNARD. OBVIOUSLY EMOTIONAL ABOUT THIS VERDICT, SAYING THAT THIS IS NOT JUST A WIN FOR ANDREA CONSTAND BUT A WIN FOR ALL OF THE WOMEN WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS, ALL OF THE WOMEN WHO SHE SAYS HAVE BEEN DRUGGED AND RAPED OR TOUCHED INAPPROPRIATELY OR HARASSED, ET CETERA, BY BILL COSBY. IT IS A CHAOTIC SCENE OUT THERE, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF ACCUSERS THAT HAVE BEEN ATTENDING THE TRIAL. FIVE OF THEM DID TESTIFY AT THIS TRIAL. WE’RE GOING TO TRY AND BRING YOU THE SOUND AS IT COMES IN. YOU CAN SEE GLORIA ALLRED THERE, REPRESENTING A NUMBER OF THE WOMEN. JOSEPH, YOUR REACTION.>>THE JURY EVALUATED THE EVIDENCE THAT IT HAD BEFORE WITH RESPECT TO BILL COSBY’S ABUSE OF ANDREA CONSTAND. THEY ALSO HAD THE EVIDENCE OF A COMMON PLAN AND SCHEME OF BILL COSBY TO INGRATIATE HIMSELF WITH VICTIMS’ FAMILIES, TO ATTEMPT TO MENTOR THEM, AND THEN TO SEE THEM INTO TAKING DRUGS OR ALCOHOL THAT MAY HAVE BEEN LACED WITH SOMETHING, AND THEN ABUSING THEM. SO THE JURY WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ANDREA CONSTAND AND EVALUATE THAT IN THE CONTEXT OF THIS COMMON PLAN THAT MR. COSBY HAD TO LURE AND ABUSE UNWITTING WOMEN.>>LET’S LISTEN TO GLORIA.>>– PRIOR BAD ACTS WITNESSES WHOM I REPRESENT WHO TESTIFIED IN THIS SECOND CRIMINAL TRIAL. FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO THANK THE JURY. JUSTICE HAS BEEN DONE!>>WOO!>>AND WE’RE VERY, VERY HAPPY AND PROUD OF THIS RESULT. BEGINNING IN LATE 2014, THE ACCUSERS OF MR. COSBY WHOM I REPRESENTED BEGAN TO SPEAK OUT. IT TOOK A GREAT DEAL OF COURAGE. IN THE BEGINNING, MANY WERE NOT BELIEVED. WE ARE SO HAPPY THAT FINALLY WE CAN SAY, WOMEN ARE BELIEVED, AND NOT ONLY ON #METOO, BUT IN A COURT OF LAW WHERE THEY WERE UNDER OATH, WHERE THEY TESTIFIED TRUTHFULLY, WHERE THEY WERE ATTACKED, WHERE THEY WERE SMEARED, WHERE THEY WERE DENIGRATED, WHERE THERE WERE ATTEMPTS TO DISCREDIT THEM. AND AFTER ALL IS SAID AND DONE, WOMEN WERE FINALLY BELIEVED. AND WE THANK THE JURY SO MUCH FOR THAT. AND THEY WERE BELIEVED AFTER THE PROSECUTION MET THEIR HIGH STANDARD OF HAVING TO PROVE GUILT BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. AND THE JURY IN THIS SECOND CRIMINAL TRIAL FOUND THAT THEY BELIEVED WOMEN. AND I’M THE HAPPIEST I HAVE BEEN ABOUT ANY COURT DECISION IN 42 YEARS. ONE OF THE VICTIMS WHO TESTIFIED, “I FEEL THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM WORKS. 32 YEARS OF NIGHTMARES AND TEARS ARE OVER. THANKS TO ALL OF THOSE WHO ARE HAVE SUPPORTED ME.” MY CLIENT WHO ALSO TESTIFIED AT THIS TRIAL AT WELL, TEACHER IN LAS VEGAS, SAYS I AM EXTREMELY GRATEFUL TO SEE THAT THE JURY WAS ABLE TO SEE PAST HIS DEFENSE ATTORNEY’S LIES. AND SHE SAYS MORE. PEOPLE KEEP E-MAILING ME SO IT IS KIND OF COVERING UP WHAT THEY’RE SAYING. “I TRULY HOPE THAT HIS LONG LIST OF VICTIMS WILL TRULY — WILL NOW BE ABLE TO FIND SOME KIND OF PEACE.” AND WE WILL HAVE MORE FROM HER A LITTLE BIT LATER. AND FINALLY, WE ALSO HAVE A STATEMENT FROM JANICE BAKER KINNEY WHO ALSO TESTIFIED AT THIS TRIAL. HER STATEMENT IS, “I AM OVERWHELMED WITH JOY, RELIEF AND GRATITUDE. JOY THAT FINALLY JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED. RELIEF THAT THE YEARS OF THIS TOXIC CHAIN OF SILENCE HAS BEEN BROKEN AND WE CAN NOW MOVE FORWARD WITH OUR HEADS HELD HIGH.” AND THERE WILL BE MORE FROM HER LATER. SO I JUST WANT TO SAY, IT’S BEEN A VERY LONG JOURNEY, BUT THIS IS AN HISTORIC RESULT. THIS WAS HER STORY. NOT HIS STORY. NOT HISTORY. BUT THE STORY OF HER. THE STORY OF ANDREA CONSTAND. THE STORY OF ALL OF THOSE WHO TOOK THAT RISK OF BEING DENIGRATED PUBLICLY, TOOK THE RISK OF BEING SUED FOR WHAT THEY SAID BECAUSE HE HAD THE RESOURCES TO DO IT, TOOK THE RISK OF BEING SHAMED AND BLAMED AS THE DEFENSE DID IN THEIR FINAL ARGUMENT, TOOK THOSE RISKS AND THEY TOOK THE RISK SO THAT THEIR TRUTH COULD BE KNOWN, SO THAT THEIR TRUTH COULD BE BELIEVED. AND, YES, THE “ME TOO” MOVEMENT HAS ARRIVED AND IS WELL AND IS LIVING IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY AND THROUGHOUT THIS NATION AND THROUGHOUT THIS WORLD. THANK YOU. I DO WANT TO THANK PROSECUTOR KEVIN STEELE, KRISTIN SNEDDON-STEWART. AN AMAZING PROSECUTORIAL OFFICE. THEY BELIEVED IN THIS CASE. THEY WENT THROUGH THE FIRST TRIAL, ENDED IN DEADLOCK. SOME PROSECUTORS WOULD NOT HAVE RETRIED THE CASE. THEY TOOK THAT RISK FOR JUSTICE. SO I WANT TO THANK THEM. DETECTIVE GREEN. DETECTIVE SCHAFER. ALL THOSE WHO WORKED SO HARD BEHIND THE SCENES AND WHO ALSO BELIEVED MY CLIENTS. AND JUST EVERYONE. SO TOM MESEREAU, YOU TRIED. YOU FAILED. THE PERSONAL ATTACKS DID NOT WORK. BILL COSBY, THREE WORDS FOR YOU — GUILTY, GUILTY, GUILTY! THANK YOU. I’M HAPPY TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS AND I’M SURE OTHERS WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK AS WELL BUT LET’S JUST HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FIRST. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. WHO WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK? YOU WANT TO ASK A QUESTION FIRST? OR YOU WANT THEM TO SPEAK?>>I JUST WANT TO THANK D.A. STEELE AND HIS AMAZING TEAM AND ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVED IN US EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. WE ARE SO GRATEFUL TO ALL OF YOU AND THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. WE ARE VINDICATED. WE ARE VALIDATED. AND WE ARE NOW PART OF THE TSUNAMI OF WOMEN, POWER AND JUSTICE. WE ARE NOT SHUTTING UP AND WE’RE NOT GOING AWAY. GET OVER IT.>>I STAND HERE IN THE SPIRIT OF MARTIN LUTHER KING WHO SAID THAT THE ARC OF THE MORAL UNIVERSE IS LONG BUT TODAY IT HAS BEEN TOWARDS JUSTICE. LAST YEAR WHEN I WAS SITTING IN THE COURTROOM OF THE FIRST TRIAL AND THE VERDICT WAS HUNG, I LEFT WITH SUCH A TREMENDOUS SENSE OF DISAPPOINTMENT. AND IT BECAME EVIDENT TO ME THAT THE JUSTICE SYSTEM IS LIGHT YEARS BEHIND MODERN CULTURE. BUT TODAY THIS JURY HAS SHOWN THAT THE ME TOO MOVEMENT IS SAYING IS THAT WOMEN ARE WORTHY OF BEING BELIEVED. AND I THANK THE JURY. I THANK THE PROSECUTION. WHEN I LOOKED AT THAT JURY, THERE WAS THIS ONE YOUNG BLACK MAN ON THE JURY WHO I LOOKED UPON AS MY SON AND I KNEW THE DISAPPOINTMENT HE FELT AT LOOKING AT A BELOVED BLACK MALE ICONIC FATHER FIGURE AND BEING ABLE TO YET RENDER A GUILTY VERDICT. I THANK HIM. I THANK ALL OF THE JURY. AND THIS IS A VICTORY NOT JUST FOR ANDREA CONSTAND WHOM I CONSIDER TO BE THE JOAN OF ARC IN THE WAR ON RAPE. IT IS NOT JUST A VICTORY FOR THE COMMONWEALTH. IT IS NOT JUST A VICTORY FOR THE 62 OF US PUBLICLY KNOWN COSBY SURVIVORS WHOM GLORIA ALLRED HAS HELPED GIVE A VOICE. IT IS ALSO A VICTORY FOR WOMANHOOD. AND IT IS A VICTORY FOR ALL SEXUAL ASSAULT SURVIVORS. FEMALES AND MALES. AND I THANK YOU ALL IN THE MEDIA. YOU ARE THE PILLARS OF DEMOCRACY. WITHOUT YOU, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED.>>SO ONE LAST POINT, WHICH IS, I SAID BEFORE THE VERDICT, HOW MANY WOMEN DOES IT TAKE FOR ONE WOMAN TO BE BELIEVED OVER THE DENIAL OF ONE RICH, POWERFUL, FAMOUS MAN? AND THE ANSWER IN THIS CASE IS FOUR. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU SO MUCH. AND WE’LL SEE YOU LATER.>>THERE YOU HAVE IT, GLORIA ALLRED AND A NUMBER OF THE ACCUSERS HAPPY. THAT’S ABOUT THE BEST WORD TO DESCRIBE IT. HAPPY THAT JUSTICE HAS FINALLY BEEN SERVED TO BILL COSBY, A PLAN THEY SAY HAS RAPED AND INAPPROPRIATELY TOUCHED AND TARGETED AND VICTIMIZED WOMEN FOR DECADES. JOINING ME NOW BY PHONE IS JANICE BAKER KINNEY, A COSBY ACCUSER WHO TESTIFIED IN THIS CASE AGAINST COSBY. JANICE, HOW ARE YOU FEELING?>>WELL, KATY, I KEEP THINKING I’M OKAY. SOMEONE ASKS HOW I’M DOING AND I BREAK DOWN. WHEN I SPOKE AT THE TRIAL, I DIDN’T REALIZE UNTIL I RETURNED HOME TO CALIFORNIA HOW I REALLY WASN’T BREATHING MUCH WHILE I WAS THERE. THE ADRENALIN HAD ME SO PUMPED HOME AND WHEN I GOT UP I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO RELIEVE IT AND BREAK DOWN AND CRY. I THINK THE PAST TWO DAYS THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED. I’VE BEEN HOLDING MY BREATH FOR TWO DAYS, AND SO WORRIED WHEN I HEARD THE QUESTIONS THE JURY CAME BACK WITH, SO WORRIED THAT ANOTHER HUNG JURY WOULD HAPPEN. AND I’M SHAKING WITH RELIEF AND I CAN’T STOP SOBBING. AND I THINK IT’S JUST THIS RELIEF OF ALL OF THE PENT-UP ADRENALIN AND NERVES AND EVERYTHING ELSE. AND IT’S BEEN A LONG, LONG, LONG JOURNEY AND THIS IS SUCH A RELIEF TO HEAR THIS.>>JANICE, WHAT DO YOU THINK WAS DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS TRIAL COMPARED TO THE TRIAL LAST SUMMER?>>WELL, I DO BELIEVE SOME OF THE ME TOO MOVEMENT CAME INTO ACCOUNT, EVEN THOUGH THE JURY WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE THAT IN ACCOUNT. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT NOT TO SEE THE HUGE WAVE OF WOMEN COMING FORWARD REGARDING HOW THEY’D BEEN TREATED THROUGH THE YEARS. I ALSO BELIEVE IT DID HELP TO HAVE SOME CORROBORATING WITNESSES SUCH AS MYSELF, CORROBORATING IN THE SENSE THAT WE ALL HAVE SIM STORIES, AND IT WAS HELPFUL THAT THE JURY WAS ABLE TO HEAR THAT HE HAD AN M.O. IN GOING FORWARD AND THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. HE HAD A PATTERN OF BEHAVIOR, AND I BELIEVE IT WAS TRULY AWESOME TO BE ABLE TO HEAR SOME OF THE WOMEN BE ABLE TO TESTIFY ABOUT THAT PATTERN.>>JANICE, TELL US ABOUT YOUR STORY. WHAT WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH COSBY?>>WELL, I DID TESTIFY ABOUT IT ON THE STAND. I ALSO HAVE RELEASED A STATEMENT DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE WITH MY ATTORNEY, GLORIA ALLRED, A FEW YEARS BACK. FOR A LONG TIME I DID NOT WANT TO COME FORWARD, ESPECIALLY EVEN AFTER ALL THE OTHER WOMEN STARTED COMING FORWARD BECAUSE I WAS AT A PARTY IN A SEPARATE PLACE FROM HIM AND I WAS RAPED WITHOUT KNOWING. ALL THE WOMEN THAT CAME FORWARD HAD SOMEBODY PUT SOMETHING IN THEIR DRINK OR WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS SOMETHING OTHER THAN A DEBILITATING DRUG HE WAS GIVING THEM, SUCH AS BENADRYL, THEY WERE TOLD. I WAS ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE THAT ACCEPTED A PILL FROM HIM AND SO I THOUGHT THAT MY STORY WAS DIFFERENT, THAT I WAS PARTIALLY TO BLAME, THAT I WAS NOT LIKE THE WOMEN THAT HE DECEIVED. IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME TO MAKE SENSE OF THAT, THAT IT WASN’T MY FAULT. IT WAS A STUPID DECISION, BUT IT WASN’T MY FAULT. I’M JUST SO PROUD OF EVERYBODY THAT CAME BEFORE ME AND THAT ARE COMING FORWARD AFTER ME. I’M JUST SO RELIEVED WITH THIS. I DON’T KNOW HOW ELSE TO EXPLAIN MY FEELINGS. THE RELIEF IS OVERWHELMING.>>WHAT IS IT LIKE FOR YOU TO BE IN THE SAME ROOM WITH HIM?>>WELL, WHEN I FIRST WHEN THE D.A. FIRST APPROACHED ME AND ASKED ME ABOUT COMING FORWARD AT THIS POINT, I’M NOT AFRAID OF HIM. I DIDN’T CARE IF I SAW HIM. AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED, HE WAS JUST A BLIP ON MY RADAR SCREEN. IT WAS SURREAL TO SEE HIM, ESPECIALLY AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS. BUT WHAT I WAS MOST MAYBE INTIMIDATING MIGHT NOT BE THE SAME WORD BUT SEEING HIS ATTORNEYS AND THEY’RE LOOKING AT ME WITH SUCH DISDAIN AND — >>WE’RE LOOKING AT THE ATTORNEYS RIGHT NOW LEAVE THE COURTHOUSE, JANICE. FOLLOWING BEHIND THEM WILL BE COSBY. HE’S PUT HIS ARMS UP. I’M NOT ENSIRL SURE WHAT THAT’S SUPPOSD TO SIGNIFY. HE’S WALKING TO ME AT WHAT SEEMS AT LEAST A BRISKER BRISK OF THE COURTHOUSE AS HE WALKS OUT OF THE COURTHOUSE THIS MORNING. HE’S FACING AT A MAXIMUM, JANICE, 30 YEARS IN PRISON. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE HAPPEN? DO YOU WANT TO SEE HIM GO TO PRISON FOR THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF TIME, TO DIE IN PRISON?>>I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEE HIM GO TO PRISON. I THINK IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT HE SERVE SOME TIME. I DON’T BUY THE ELDERLY LEGALLY BLIND CRAP THAT’S PREYING ON PEOPLE, OH, THE POOR THING. WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THE POOR THINGS THAT ARE THE 60-PLUS SOME WOMEN.>>JANICE, FORGIVE ME IF I INTERRUPT YOU, THEY’RE GOING TO TALK IN A FEW MINUTES. CONTINUE TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE HAPPEN. SOME JAIL TIME.>>YEAH, AND IT WOULD BE OKAY WITH ME IF HE DIED IN PRISON. HE HAS SUBJECTED WOMEN TO 50-PLUS YEARS OF INTERNAL PRISON. MY HEART WILL NOT BREAK IF HE DIES IN PRISON.>>JANICE, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CALLING IN AND THANK YOU FOR TELLING YOUR STORY AND HAVING THE BRAVERY TO PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE. I KNOW IT IS DIFFICULT. JANICE BAKER KINNEY. THANK YOU. THIS IS TOM MESEREAU, ONE OF BILL COSBY’S LAWYERS.>>WE ARE VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED BY THE VERDICT. WE DON’T THINK MR. COSBY’S GUILTY OF ANYTHING AND THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER. THANK YOU.>>ARE YOU GOING TO APPEAL, SIR?>>YES. YES. VERY STRONGLY.>>IS MR. COSBY PREPARED TO GO TO PRISON?>>MR. COSBY, ARE YOU PREPARED TO GO TO PRISON, SIR?>>LOOKS LIKE WE WILL NOT BE GETTING A COMMENT FROM BILL COSBY OR HIS PERSONAL SPOKESPERSON. WE DID HEAR HIS LAWYER, TOM MESEREAU, SAY RIGHT THERE THAT THEY DO PLAN TO APPEAL THIS DECISION. HE SAID THEY’RE GOING TO APPEAL IT VERY STRONGLY. THEY’RE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS DECISION. IT IS UNCLEAR WHAT THE JUDGE IS GOING TO DO IN SENTENCING, WHETHER OR NOT THE JUDGE WILL SEND COSBY TO PRISON DURING THE TO PROVE TO THE COURT THAT HE IS LIKELY TO WIN ON APPEAL IF THEY PERSUADE THE COURT, THEN HE WILL STAY OUT WHILE THE APPEAL IS MOVING FORWARD. WHAT’S INTERESTING IS, IF THAT DOESN’T HAPPEN, IF HE DOES GET SENTENCED TO JAIL TIME, WHICH I DO EXPECT WILL HAPPEN, THEN THE APPEAL WILL HAPPEN VERY, VERY QUICKLY. BECAUSE IF THEY REALLY BELIEVE THEY’RE LIKELY TO WIN, THEN THEY WANT TO GET HIM OUT OF JAIL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IF THE OPPOSITE HAPPENS PENDING ANY DOUBT DROUGHT THE APPEAL WE MAY NOT SEE AN APPEAL FILED FOR TEN YEARS. THEY TEND TO BE DELAYED IF A GUY IS OUT PENDING APPEAL IF THE DEFENSE THINKS THE CONVICTION IS SOLID AND SO IN SENTENCING BOTH SIDES ARE GOING TO COME DESCRIBE WHY THEY THINK HE SHOULD OR SHOULDN’T SPEND ANY TIME BEHIND BARS. HE FACES UP TO 30 YEARS BUT THERE ARE GUIDELINES IN PENNSYLVANIA SO HE PROBABLY REALLY DOESN’T FACE 30 YEARS BEHIND BARS. DEFENSE WILL ARGUE THAT HE IS OLDER, HE HAS DISABILITIES, AND I’M SURE THEY’LL GET A BUCKET FULL OF LETTERS FROM PEOPLE WHO SAY HE’S A WONDERFUL MAN AND SHOULD NOT SERVE EVEN ONE DAY BEHIND BARS. PROSECUTION, ON THE OTHER HAND, WILL NOT ONLY POINT OUT THE SEVERITY OF THIS CRIME BUT THE FACT THAT HE DOES HAVE A VERY SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF VICTIMS AND THAT TO SOME EXTENT THE COURT SHOULD TAKE THOSE INTO ACCOUNT.>>THE VICTIMS, THEY HAVEN’T RESULTED IN CONVICTIONS. THERE’S ONLY ONE CONVICTION IN THIS CASE. HOW MUCH IS THAT GOING TO WEIGH ON SENTENCING?>>RIGHT. BUT THE COURT IS ALLOWED TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT OTHER TYPES OF MISCONDUCT IN HIS LIFE. YOU NEED TO HAVE A CONVICTION BEFORE THE COURT CAN TAKE IT INTO CONSIDERATION AS A FACTOR DURING SENTENCING. THERE IS NO QUESTION IN MY MIND THEY’LL PROBABLY NEED LOTS OF DAYS OF TESTIMONY FROM THE VICTIMS TO DESCRIBE THE IMPACT OF THE CRIME IN THEIR LIFE, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NOT IN THIS CASE. THE COURT DOES HAVE DISCRETION LIKE WE SAW WITH THE GYMNASTICS TEAM SITUATION, LOTS AND LOTS OF VICTIMS WHO WEREN’T VICTIMS OF THE PARTICULAR CHARGES COMING FORWARD AND TALKING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM. LARRY NASR CASE. IT IS POSSIBLE WE’LL SEE LOTS OF THAT HERE AS WELL. BUT AGAIN, BECAUSE THE COURT HAS DISCRETION WE MIGHT SEE ONLY A FEW VICTIMS. WE COULD SEE AS MANY AS 60-PLUS COMING FORWARD. WE WILL HAVE TO SEE WHEN THE SENTENCING A SCHEDULED AND HEAR WHAT BOTH SIDES ARE ARGUING FOR. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THE PROSECUTION IS GOING TO DEMAND AN EXTENSIVE TIME BEHIND BARS. THE DEFENSE WILL ASK FOR PROBATION AND WILL PROBABLY SEE SOMETHING UP THE MIDDLE.>>WENDY MURPHY, FORMER FEDERAL PROSECUTOR, WENDY, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.>>>WE JUST GOT ANOTHER NOTE FROM INSIDE THE COURTROOM DESCRIBING WHAT HAPPENED AS THE VERDICT WAS READ. I DO WANT TO READ IT TO YOU AT HOME NOW. COSBY’S HEAD WAS BENT SLIGHTLY, EYES SHUT AS THE JUDGE READ THE VERDICT. LATER WHEN THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY WAS ASKING THE JUDGE TO REVOKE BAIL, SUGGESTING THAT HE WAS A FLIGHT RISK AND THAT HE HAS A PLANE, COSBY YELLED, “HE DOESN’T HAVE A PLANE, YOU A-HOLE,” I’M SICK OF IT, YOU A-HOLE” AS DISTRICT ATTORNEY KEVIN STEELE WAS ENGAGED IN A DISCUSSION WITH THE JUDGE. THE PROSECUTION ARGUED CONDITIONS HAVE CHANGED SO HE SHOULD REJOKE — REVOKE HIS BAIL. THE JUDGE ASKED IF STEELE HAD EVIDENCE OF WHY NOW SHOULD BE ANY DIFFERENT. THE JUDGE SAID BECAUSE OF HIS AGE AND MEDICAL CONDITION, I AM NOT GOING TO SIMPLY LOCK HIM UP. EARLIER WHEN THE JURY READ THE VERDICT, COSBY’S ACCUSER, LILI BERNARD, WHO YOU JUST SAW A MOMENT AGO, TALKING TO REPORTERS, WHO WAS SITTING IN THE COURTROOM DURING BOTH TRIALS, LET OUT A LOUD WAIL AS THE VERDICT WAS READ. SHE WAS ESCORTED OUT OF THE COURTROOM. ANDREA CONSTAND WAS STONE-FACED ACCORDING TO OUR REPORTERS INSIDE THAT COURTROOM BUT WE DID SEE HER AS SHE LEFT THE COURTROOM SMILING FROM EAR TO EAR WITH HER ARMS AROUND TWO OF HER COMPANIONS. THIS IS COSBY’S SUV LEAVING THE COURTROOM. HE’S GOING TO BE GOING HOME, AWAITING HIS SENTENCING. AGAIN, THE JUDGE DECIDED NOT TO IMMEDIATELY PUT HIM BEHIND BARS BECAUSE OF HIS AGE AND HIS MEDICAL CONDITION. AT MAXIMUM, HE’S FACING 30 YEARS BEHIND BARS. BUT SO FAR THE ANALYSIS SEEMS TO SUGGEST THAT GIVEN PENNSYLVANIA’S LAWS AND GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THIS CASE, IT IS UNLIKELY THAT HE WILL SPEND 30 YEARS BEHIND BARS OR HE’LL BE SENTENCED TO 30 YEARS BEHIND BARS WHICH WOULD AMOUNT TO A DEATH SENTENCE BECAUSE COSBY IS 80 YEARS OLD. JOINING ME BY PHONE NOW, VETERAN PROSECUTOR AND LEGAL ANALYST PAUL HENDERSON. WHAT DO YOU MAKE, PAUL, OF THE PROSECUTION’S ARGUMENT THAT BECAUSE HE IS A FLIGHT RISK, BECAUSE HE IS SO WEALTHY, BECAUSE HE HAS SO MUCH AT HIS DISPOSAL THAT HE SHOULD BE PUT BEHIND BARS IMMEDIATELY?>>THAT’S WHAT’S EXPECTED FROM THE VICTIMS IN THIS CASE, THAT THEY WANTED TO HEAR THE PROSECUTOR MAKE A MOTION AT THE CONCLUSION WHEN GUILT WAS FOUND THAT THEY WANTED HIM REMANDED IMMEDIATELY. SO I WAS NOT SURPRISED BY THAT. WHAT I THINK IS REALLY INTERESTING IS THAT THE JUDGE RULED THAT HE’S GOING TO WAIT UNTIL SENTENCING AND ALLOW HIM TO BE RELEASED BACK ON BAIL. NOW THE PROSECUTORS CAN CERTAINLY COME BAB AND ASK THAT THAT BAIL BE RAISED BUT I THINK WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM THOSE PROSECUTORS IS A LARGE PREPARATION AND LARGE PRESENTATION ABOUT THE SENTENCING. BECAUSE THE JUDGE DOES HAVE SOME DISCRETION HERE IN TERMS OF TRYING TO FACTOR OUT HOW MUCH TIME HE IS GOING TO GIVE TO COSBY. WE KNOW THAT HE’S FACING UP TO 30 YEARS. OBVIOUSLY AT 80 YEARS OLD, THIS IS ESSENTIALLY A LIFE SENTENCE. THERE’S ALSO A CIVIL FINE ASSOCIATED WITH EACH OF THESE CHARGES, $25,000 FOR EACH COUNT, THAT’S $75,000. FOR SOMEBODY LIKE BILL COSBY THAT DOESN’T MATTER BUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE EXTERNAL PROCESS OF THIS CONVICTION. THE INTERNAL PROCESS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS CASE IS WHAT’S GOING ON RIGHT NOW AND THAT’S WHAT THE PROSECUTION IS PREPARED FOR, TO TRY AND GET AS MUCH PRISON TIME AS POSSIBLE AND NOT TO MENTION RETRIBUTION AND ALL OF THE COSTS ASSOCIATED FROM THESE VICTIMS. RIGHT NOW WHAT THE DEFENSE ATTORNEYS ARE DOING ARE PREPARING A MOTION TO ASK FOR CLEMENCY BASED ON COSBY’S AGE, BASED ON HIS MEDICAL CONDITION. AND THEN ALMOST CERTAINLY THEY ARE PLANNING A BROAD APPEAL OF THE VERDICT AND I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED AT ALL TO SEE THEM SPECIFICALLY TARGETING THE JUDGE IN THIS CASE FOR ALLOWING MORE VICTIM WITNESSES TO COME IN TALKING ABOUT THE OPERANDI. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS TRIAL AND THE FIRST TRIAL. I’M SURE THEY ARE GOING TO TRY TO TART THAT THIS WAS PREJUDICIAL AND THAT THE VERDICT SHOULD BE OVERRULED AND THERE SHOULD BE A MISTRIAL. I HAVE TO IMAGINE THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE PLAN AND I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED TO SEE A MOTION CHALLENGING THE CONVICTION. WHAT I THINK IS INTERESTING IS SEPARATELY FROM THIS CASE WHAT HAPPENS EXTERNALLY IN THE REST OF THIS COUNTRY THAT THIS CASE AND CONVICTION OPENED THE DOOR TO BOTH IN MORE CIVIL AND CRIMINAL CASES THAT ARE NOW ALLOWED TO MOVE FORWARD BECAUSE OF THIS DECISION. THIS WILL OVERTURN A LOT OF THE GAG RULE IN>>>HERE’S LESTER HOLT.>>WELCOME BEGIN. WE’RE BACK ON THE AIR TO BRING YOU THE LATEST ON THE BILL COSBY SEXUAL ASSAULT TRIAL. THE JURY HAS FOUND COSBY GUILT ON ALL THREE COUNTS MEANING HE COULD FACE UP TO 30 YEARS IN PRISON. THE PROSECUTION IS ADDRESSING THE REPORTERS. D.A. KEVIN SNELL.>>I WOULD BE REMISS IF I DID NOT THANK FIRST THOSE 12 JURORS FOR THEIR DILIGENCE, SACRIFICES THAT THEY MADE AS WELL AS THE SACRIFICES OF THEIR FAMILIES SO THEY COULD SERVE IN THIS IMPORTANT DUTY THAT THEY DID. TODAY WE’RE FINALLY IN PLACE TO SAY THAT JUSTICE WAS DONE. AS PROSECUTORS WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO SEEK JUSTICE AND WE HAVE TO GO WHERE EVER AND TO WHOMEVER IT TAKES US. TO BEGIN, I WANT TO STEP BACK TO A POINT THAT WAS PRETTY DECISIVE IN THIS CASE. THAT’S WHEN JUDGE RELEASED THE CIVIL CASE DEPOSITION AND INDICATED IN HIS OPINION THAT THE DEFENDANT’S DEPOSITION SHOWED THE STARK CONTRAST BETWEEN BILL COSBY, THE PUBLIC MORALIST, AND BILL COSBY THE SUBJECT OF SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS CONCERNING IMPROPER AND SERIOUS CONDUCT. AT THAT POINT THE PROSECUTORS WHO ARE HERE TO DO THE RIGHT THING ANDSPECIFICALLY MY PREDECESSOR OPENED UP AND RE-OPENED THIS INVESTIGATION. THAT’S A DUTY BUT THAT DUTY TOOK COURAGE. SHE HAD TO OPEN UP A CASE AGAINST A POWERFUL MAN. I CAN SAY DEFINITIVELY THAT’S ONE OF THINGS THAT’S DOEMPB AND OVER AGAIN IN THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE. WE HAVE SHOWN THAT MONEY AND POWER WILL NOT STOP US FROM A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION FOR PROSECUTING A CASE. WHAT WAS REVEALED THROUGH THIS INVESTIGATION WAS A MAN WHO HAD SPENT DECADES PREYING ON WOMEN THAT HE DRUGGED AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED AND A MAN WHO HAD EVADED THIS MOMENT HERE TODAY FOR FAR TOO LONG. HE USED HIS CELEBRITY. HE USED HIS WEALTH, NETWORK OF SUPPORTERS TO HELP HIM CONCEAL HIS CRIMES. WE REALLY KNOW TODAY WHO WAS BEHIND THAT ACT. WHO THE REAL BILL COSBY WAS AND THE JURY HAS SPOKEN WITH ONE VOICE. FOUND THE DEFENDANT GUILTY OF DRUGGING AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING ANDREA CONSTAND IN HIS HOME. THERE’S A NUMBER OF PEOPLE UP HERE AND I’LL TRY TO ADDRESS THIS. THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THIS IS ANDREA CONSTAND. THERE YOU ARE. 14 YEARS LATER, IT MAY BE EASY TO FORGET BUT SHE WAS THAT FIRST COURAGEOUS PERSON THAT STOOD UP IN PUBLIC TO GO TO THE AUTHORITIES AND SAY THAT BILL COSBY DRUGGED AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HER. HER COURAGE, HER RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF HORRIBLE AND UNFOUNDED ATTACKS UPON HER AND HER FAMILY HAS BEEN SO INSPIRING TO ALL OF US. WE THANK HER. WE THANK HER FAMILY. WE THANK HER MOTHER FOR TRUSTING US THROUGH THIS PROCESS OF PROSECUTING HER ATTACKER. SHE’S STANDING NEXT TO HER IS DELORES WERE THE ONES ASKING THE QUESTIONS IN THAT DEPOSITION. IT GOT US TO THE POINT WE WERE ABLE TO RE-OPEN THIS CASE AND SEEK JUSTICE. STANDING WITH HER THROUGH THIS PROCESS HAS BEEN A LOT OF OTHER COURAGEOUS WOMEN WHO WERE ABLE TO TELL THEIR STORIES ABOUTING WITH DRUGGED OR SEXUALLY ASSAULTED OR RAPED. 19 WERE WILLING TO STAND UP WITH US IN THIS PROSECUTION TAKE THE WITNESS STAND. WE’RE HUMBLD BY THE COURAGE ALL OF THEM SHOWED. WE CAN’T HELP BUT APPLAUD AND CELEBRATE THE COURAGE OF THE FIVE WITNESSES THAT HAD A CHANCE TO FACE BILL COSBY IN THIS CASE. TO TELL THE JURY. TO TELL ALL OF YOU WHAT HE DID TO THEM. HEIDI THOMAS, JANICE DICTERSON AND LEASE. I CALLED THEM AFTER THE VERDICT AND WAS NOT ABLE TO TALK TO ALL OFTHEM. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’VE DONE. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE COURAGED HELP ALL OF US DO. SUPPORTING THESE VICTIMS HAVE BEEN THE VICTIM ADD VOE INDICATES. EACH GROUP PLAY SUCH AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN SUPPORTING THESE WOMEN AND HELPING THEM TO HEAL FROM THE ORDEAL THEY HAVE BEEN PUT THROUGH. THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE WE ALL OWE A DEBT OF GRATITUDE TO FOR THEIR STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE THROUGH THIS ENTIRE PROCESS AS WELL AS EVERY DAY BECAUSE THEY STAND WITH US. THEY’VE WORKED WITH THE VICTIMS AND THEY MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR LIVES. I’M VERY GRATEFUL TO STAND HERE BEFORE YOU WITH THIS TEAM AND IT’S NOT ALL OF OUR TEAM WHO WORKED TO SEE THAT JUSTICE WAS DONE. WE HAD TO OVERCOME MANY HURDLES THAT HAVE BEEN ON US THE PAST 28 MONTHS. THIS TIME THE LAWYERS FROM FOUR DIFFERENT LAW FIRMS AND EACH STEP OF THE WAY WE FOUGHT FOR THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE VICTIMS TO BE HEARD. THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET THIS CASE TO A JURY. AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE STANDING BEFORE ALL OF YOU AFTER HEARING THE DEFENDANT HAD BEEN CONVICTED OF THREE COUNTS OF AGGRAVATED INDECENT ASSAULT. THIS TEAM HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE. I CAN’T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THE PROSECUTORS AND DETECTIVE, DEDICATED STAFF WHO DESPITE EVERYTHING THAT WAS THROWN AT US, AT THEM, STAYED THE COURSE, EYE ON THE BALL AND WORK TO GET US HERE TODAY. I’M SO PROUD OF THESE TALENTED PEOPLE. THEY ARE COMMITTED TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS FOR THE RIGHT REASONS. I’M GOING TO HAVE TO START WITH, I THINK I HEARD HIM REFER TO RECENTLY AS THUNDER AND LIGHTNING. HE HEADS OUR FAMILY PROTECTION UNIT. HE’S BEEN WITH OUR OFFICE SIX YEARS. JUST ONE OF THE BEST. WE SAW SOME OF THAT TALENT COMING ACROSS THROUGHOUT THIS TRIAL AND I GOT REPORTS ON HOW I LOOKED AS I WAS WATCHING WHAT THEY DID. YOU GET TO THE POINT YOU WORK WITH KIDS AND YOUNG ADULTS AND YOU GET TO THAT POINT WHERE YOU PUT THEM OUT ON THE FIELD OR ONTO THE COURT. THERE’S NOT MUCH YOU CAN DO AT THAT POINT OTHER THAN WATCH AND I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE PROUD OF WHAT THEY DID. THROUGHOUT THIS WHOLE THING AND SOME OF THE CROSS-EXAMINATION THAT YOU ALL GOT TO SEE. SOME OF THE QUICK WITTED REMARKS WERE SOMETHING. SO, WE WOULDN’T BE HERE IF NOT FOR KRISTEN. I SAY THAT BECAUSE WHEN WE CAME BACK TO LOOK AT THIS CASE. JUDGE FURMAN ASK KRISTEN AND SOME OF OUR TEAM TO GO TO TORONTO TO MEET WITH ANDREA. THAT WAS A DIFFICULT TASK. WHEN KRISTEN CAME BACK, SHE WAS ADAMANT, ADAMANT ABOUT WHAT WE SHOULD D AND WE MOVE FORWARD. IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. SHE HAS STUCK THROUGH THIS THE WHOLE WAY. SHE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY WHICH WAS KIND OF A BAD DAY FOR ME WHEN SHE HAD GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR HER AND HER FAMILY TO GO TO EXCELLENT LAW FIRM. WE TALKED A LOT AND KRISTEN DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE THIS AND NOT SEE IT TO THE END. WE TALKED TO BILL SASSO, THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FIRM WHO WE ALL OWE A DEBT OF GRATITUDE TO FOR ALLOWING HER TO STAY ON WITH US AND STAY WITH US THROUGH THIS CASE. WE HAVE SEEN THE RESULTS OF THAT. SHE, LIKE, MR. RYAN HERE HAS PROSECUTED SO MANY SEXUAL ASSAULTS, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASES AND ALWAYS STOOD UP FOR VICTIMS AND HAS CONTINUED TO DO THIS. I COULDN’T HAVE FOUND TWO BETTER PARTNERS.>>WE’RE LISTENING TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA DISTRICT ATTORNEY KEVIN SNELL REACTING TO THE VERDICT. GUILTY OF ALL THREE COUNTS AGAINST BILL COSBY. AGGRAVATED INDECENT ASSAULT. WE WERE LED TO BELIEVE WE MAY HEAR FROM MISS CONSTAND AT SOME POINT. AS WE WATCH THIS AND MONITOR THIS CONVERSATION. LET ME GO BACK TO STEPHANIE GOSK. WALK US THROUGH THIS CASE. HER ALLEGATIONS, HOW IT CAME TO TRIAL AND THEN A SECOND TRIAL.>>ABSOLUTELY. IT WAS 2004, JANUARY OF 2004. SHE SAID SHE WENT TO BILL COSBY’S HOME AND WHILE THERE HE GAVE HER MULTIPLE PILLS. IT WAS A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION ON HOW MANY HE GAVE HER. WHETHER IT WAS BENADRYL OR SOMETHING ELSE AND A GLASS OF RED WINE. SHE SAID SHE BECAME INCAPACITATED AND THAT’S WHEN SHE WAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY BILL COSBY. SHE DIDN’T REPORT IT UNTIL A YEAR LATER TO CANADIAN AUTHORITIES. THEY LOOKED AT THE CHARGES AND THE EVIDENCE AND DECIDED NOT TO PROCEED WITH CRIMINAL CHARGES. YOU HEARD KEVIN TALKING ABOUT HIS OFFICE TO REVISIT THESE CHARGES AND COME THIS RIGHT UNDER THE WIRE FOR THE CRIMINAL CHARGES. WHAT CHANGED HIS MIND, THE WOMEN THAT HAD COME FORWARD, THE ALLEGED VICTIMS BUT PARTICULARLY A DEPOSITION THAT WAS RELEASED WHERE BILL COSBY SAID HE BOUGHT QUAALUDES IN THE ’70S AND GIVEN THEM TO YOUNG WOMEN TO HAVE SEX. IT WAS THOSE TWO FACTORS THAT PUSHED THEIR HAND AND DECIDED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH CRIMINAL CHARGES.>>WE DID HEAR BRIEFLY FROM BILL COSBY’S ATTORNEY AS HE WAS WALKING OUT OF COURTHOUSE SAYING THE FIGHT ISN’T OVER. THEY WILL APPEAL. COSBY SAID NOTHING BEFORE THEY ALL GOT IN SUV AND LEFT. CLEARLY THIS IS NOT THE END AS FAR AS THE COSBY TEAM IS CONCERNED. THEY DO PLAN AN APPEAL. I WANT TO TURN TO KATE SNOW AS WE CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS NEWS CONFERENCE. YOU HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO INTERVIEW MANY, MANY OF COSBY ACCUSERS. FIVE OF THEM TESTIFIED IN THIS TRIAL BUT DID NOT IN THE PREVIOUS ONE. I’M GOING TO ASK YOU TO REFLECT ON WHERE WE’RE AT WITH ME TOO. THE POTENTIAL POWER OF THESE FIVE WOMEN TELLING SIMILAR STORIES.>>THE JUDGE MADE A DECISION THIS TIME AROUND THAT HE WOULD ALLOW THOSE FIVE WOMEN, THE LAST TRIAL THEY ONLY ALLOWED ONE WOMAN TO SPEAK IN SUPPORT OF ANDREA CONSTAND. A COUPLE OF THINGS. ONE THOUGHT I HAVE IS WE’RE LOOKING AT ANDREA CONSTAND. SHE HAS NEVER SPOKEN PUBLICLY ABOUT THIS BECAUSE SHE’S BEEN UNDER A GAG ORDER THAT GOES WAC TO A CIVIL TRIAL THAT DID HAPPEN TEN YEARS AGO THEY DECLINED TO PROSECUTE CRIMINALLY. IT WAS A CIVIL TRIAL. A SETTLEMENT WHERE BILL COSBY PAID HER OVER $3 MILLION AND IN THAT SETTLEMENT IT SAID NO ONE CAN TALK. SHE’S NEVER SPOKEN PUBLICLY. IF SHE TAKES THAT PODIUM, IT WILL BE THE FIRST TIME WE HEAR HER STORY. TO YOUR OTHER POINT, THE METOO MOVEMENT, THE JURIES WERE TOLD TO ONLY LISTEN TO THE EVIDENCE IN FRONT OF THEM. IT’S IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANY HUMAN TO NOT HAVE HEARD WHAT’S HAPPENED WITH THE METOO MOVEMENT AND WOMEN COMING FORWARD AND SPEAKING THEIR VOICE. MANY OF THOSE WHO CONSIDER THEMSELVES SURVIVORS ARE COMING OUT NOW IN THE PAST COUPLE OF HOURS AND SAYING THIS IS WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT. THEY SAID ME FAITH IS RESTORED. THEY FEEL LIKE WE’RE AT A TIPPING POINT.>>WE’RE LOOKING AT TAPE FROM ABOUT AN HOUR AGO, GLORIA ALLRED WHO REPRESENTED MANY OF THE ACCUSERS WITH SOME OF THOSE WOMEN EXPRESSING THEIR RELIEF. LET ME GO BACK OUT TO STEPHANIE GOSK NOW. I NOTED THE COSBY TEAM SAID THEY WILL APPEAL.>>I THINK THEY WILL GO BACK TO THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS AND THE DEFENSE SPENT A LOT OF TIME TALKING ABOUT THE ACTUAL DATE OF THE INCIDENT. IT HAD TO HAVE HAPPENED AFTER DECEMBER 30 OF 2003 AND THE END OF JANUARY 2004. THEY WENT THROUGH A TEDIOUS PROCESS OF A DAY BY DAY TICK TOCK USING PHONE RECORDS AND TRAVEL RECORDS FROM BILL COSBY TRYING TO SAY ON NO DAY COULD BILL COSBY HAVE BEEN AT HIS HOME AND THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED. IF IT TURNS OUT THAT THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN DECEMBER OF 2003, THEN THEY COULD NOT HAVE BROUGHT THESE CHARGES BECAUSE OF THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS WHICH WOULD SEEM TO SOME AS A TECHNICALITY BUT THAT’S THE LAW. IF THEY CAN PROVE THAT THEN THERE’S AN APPEAL.>>AS YOU WERE SPEAKING, WE WERE SEEING WILL COSBY AND MEMBERS OF HIS LEGAL TEAM EXITING THEIR SUV AND MAKING THEIR WAY TO THIS RESIDENCE. YOU’RE SEEING HERE EMOTIONAL COSBYING WITH EM WRACED WI SOMEONE THERE. WE’LL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THAT NEWS CONFERENCE. WE’LL HAVE FULL COVERAGE. THERE’S A LOT OF REACTION AND THE IMPACT OF BILL UNTIL THEN I’M LESTER HOLT. NBC NEWS, NEW YORK

No prior cuz he was famous no one would have believed. Sentence will be stronger cuz the judge will look at that. I say at least 20 years. Which he won't even do that. Old but a serious offender and dangerous! Justice to be served. Any other man would get more!

  • HandGrenades 4Balls says:

This man's legacy is destroyed. I still dont believe he did those things to all of those women. Cmon now, he wasnt even that famous, and a black man doing those types of things during that specific period of time? They would have killed him already, lets keep it real

  • HawaiiaNNatioN says:

What evidence do these people have against Cosby? 62 Women assaulted by him? Tss lmao bunch of lyin clout chasers

  • The ladies can breathe now, I can't help but feel compassion for his wife now that he's guilty how is she going to show her face …

  • Rebajean Forever says:

He has been a sexual predator for years and many victims. He should get the max. Don't matter He has no prior. Most sexual predators aren't caught for years!!!!!

  • these ladies sound like they were just after his money. think about it they may just go home and say oh we accused him just to get his money. oh god why can't they just leave these celebrities alone?

  • The people who made that prison drama Oz should reboot it on Netflix, with new prisoner Cosby, it can be called โ€œCozโ€

  • Yahweh is King says:

the white race and the love of money. Didn't he give this ladies money . Look at this vultures consuming Bill. Michael Jackson , Cosby and who is next . idiote .

  • funny how cops cant get a guilty verdict when they blow unarmed people away as if running means you should die ( only in america )

  • epiphany difference says:

I do not like the fact these women came forward after years. Why would they even take pills given to them by anyone? Really strange. ( money can be evil)

  • Edward Stack Sr says:

He was found guilty. Maybe he is guilty but I wonder if the women involved had ANY feeling at all they might be compromised if they went to him and if they did, why did they go to him? We have others who are above the law like the Clinton's. Why are they not charged and tried? Why is Bill Cosby found guilty at age 80 and others get away? Something stinks in this country legally.

  • As confessed before the press, it was a good team work. Justice is applying a kind of sheria law to prove his potence…

  • Billy never saw this coming. Thank God that the American justice system isn't the only thing that's blind. Not like all those who believe in this animal.

  • Whenever a Black Man rises to Power like the way Cosby did during the course of his career, they will do whatever it takes to bring you down. I know Obama is no longer our President but I won't 'be surprised if he gets caught up in a nasty media scandal such as this year's from now. #Theyfearablackmaninpower #Straightcrossifiction

The casting couch is a old as Hollywood. Sexual harassment it the workplace goes back to the to the days of serfdom. The earth shaking part that everyone seems to not pick up on, is how the laws themselves are being interpreted, that instead of the victim having to prove she was blameless, the zeitgeist is moving toward no longer tolerating a use of power positions to control others either sexually or for their own ends.

  • DIY Aquarium World says:

Why waste taxpayer money and put cosby in prison? Hes already 80 years old not much life left. Just put him on house arrest and let him live out his life at home. We are just wasting thousands of taxpayers money to keep him in prison??? Common, hes old already move on to the young guy and put him away.

  • Thanks Bill. You made us laugh you made us cry. Your life has been a TV show and I'm sure there's more come. Any distraction in life is appreciated even if it's momentary.

  • the truth about the lies says:

The women used Facebook this why it was simpler they have a private playboy bunny private Facebook PJ Masten said this on Dr Phil. There wasn't facebook in the 70's 80's

  • This entire case is b*******because reason why is BS first of all or evidence that you have is words that are coming out of Bill Cosby's mouth stating that he committed this crime but here's the problem you're taking the word of a elderly person cool more or less is feeling bad now let's assume that this didn't happen your morons why I say you're more because when you're starting out in the medical field you don't immediately become a doctor more less you become an assistant so if he was an assistant in the beginning of his career as a doctor guess what that implies the females and question he was there yes did he sexually all of them no because more less it was the doctor that he was under the only reason why that it was covered up in a sense was because he considered that individual a friend and more less probably taught him everything he knows to be a great doctor no one bothered thinking about that part now did they.

  • Well something greater than Cosby is coming out way, so ppl wake up, an stay woke this is a greater distraction on another black man

  • 30 years ago, that that thing happened, why didn't they go to the police to report the"Rape"๐Ÿ˜ if it really happened! Smth doesn't look right w this Picture , now those women got their piggy Banks full,w Gold Wow, they must've been Very Hungry,,

  • So when's Weinstein gonna stand trial? Or is it for wealthy black men only? We ain't forgetting what ya'll did to Michael Jackson.

  • They shouldn't be allowed to change the statue, it's just wrong. Could potentially mean more men being victimized by women manipulating the system to nafariously benefit them.

  • None of those gold digging whores have anything to do with the case other than getting their faces on TV. I don't want to hear from some "accuser" I want to hear from the actual victim if she was in fact a victim at all.

  • Carlos Andrade I'm feeling you on that, but lets be clear, feminism is female empowerment and misogyny is female disempowerment.

  • Lorraine Kaiyas says:

IN HER OWN WORDS ON VIDEO:
Lili Barnard met Cosby in Atlantic City then made the allgation.THEN, met him in Las Vegas and it happened again

  • No matter how harshly the White man has abused his White woman, she has always stood by his side. When he turned his savagery from her to Black people, she was just as unforgiving and savage towards Blacks, who were unjustly enslaved and condemned to death to build immense wealth for Whites. My question is how can people with this type of history honestly be expected to maintain any system of justice? The fact that anyone, anywhere still believes them is the biggest crime of all!

  • Something is not adding up they watch this Man on TV for 30 years they friends and there family and they just now saying something to Me they all eligible to work for the CIA.. if they keeping a secret like that if I'm exaggerating you tell one person secret and watch how fast I get out but yet Dr Cosby had 30 women keep it secret for 30 years a Women Keeping a Secret..lo you see how outspoken She is now you believe that She could kept a secret for a second.. don't get Me wrong I can see one or two but 30 women kept a secret 4 30 years I'm doing the math it's not adding up one girl said she got drug then he put in a cab.. So Now they saying he had to drug some Woman to put her in a cab how cab driver get the address if you was drugged up and how you making inside your house once you reached your destination let Me guess Dr Cosby pay the cab driver to drag you inside the house lo (The lawsuit comeing )this Man has the upmost respect for Woman 30 million to Spelman College He gave because his philosophy was you educate a WoMan you educate a child ..He empowered Woman when he had a chance take Phylicia Rashad that played (Clair Huxtable) She made more money than him will you ever see that on TV Not saying he's a angel I'm pretty sure He flirted but (drugging and raping).. And was it just Me that notice how they acknowledge some African American Man that was on the jury.. they celebrated him because they thought he was going to mess up there lawsuit… and I'm not defending dr. Cosby because he's African-American I'm not going to get into too many details about this but I believe OJ was guilty )because it added up scar on his hand that he had no explanation for the glove that was found behind the house chauffeur said he was waiting on him (But can you imagine you coming home and your wife entertain another Man in your house what your Kids in the next room. It didn't will you raise your voice you get arrested for domestic violence.. Can't say if it was a crime a passion or jealousy but it added uP..that he was guilty and they say Johnny Cochran got him off that's not true the cop that was working the case got him off ).. go back to the subject how many women was it 20 30 and it took them 30 years to say something after seeing him everyday on TV and don't forget about the friends and family they didn't tell them either and if they did know they kept a secret to for 30 years.. I can see it was one or two But 30 with friends and family.. you do the math on it that's equivalent to everybody in New York City winning the lottery at the same time it just don't add up…P.S

I think them women that's accusing him of drugging them and raping them is trying to get them something to eat.

  • What a sad world. So I guess if any women say this guy or that guy sexual assault me us men are going to jail this is what I get from all this and all the other crap. All we get is stories but where is the proof I just dont understand how this world and court works because someone saying a stories is not proof. I can go over there and make some storie up too anyone can

  • Innocent until proven guilty. Isnโ€™t that what everyone blabbers about? Now itโ€™s not what you want to hear because you refuse to accept it for what it is. What a joke. Letโ€™s hope Kavanaugh doesnโ€™t sink next.

  • Suicidal Rockstar says:

How many of these victims are going to write a book about there one night with Bill Cosby, I predict at least three people write a book.

  • Suicidal Rockstar says:

Wow a play boy bunny accused him from back in the 1960s how much cocaine in part was she smoke in when Cosby was in around? Something smells fishy in suburbia

  • Suicidal Rockstar says:

At about 17 minutes youโ€™ll see the girl on the right in a red dress shaking her boobs. Not appropriate maybe she jumped on the bandwagon I believe that Cosby probably did what they said to about half the women and the other half jumped on the bandwagon to get money. But for this woman to shake her boobs in a sexual way on live TV is disgusting

  • Wow. Women shame thyselves. If you don't know the history of women and their efforts to be heard since the beginning of time, then start reading.

  • Fake fake fake! All 50 of these women are money hungry drug addicts. They slept with a married Cosby to advance their careers. Only in America can a black man be jailed with no evidence other than hearsay. Admit it America. You pledge allegiance to bullsh*t! ๐Ÿคช
