Hamas Threatens to Escalate Violence along Gaza Border – TV7 Israel News 20.08.19

Shalom and good evening, this is TV7 Israel
News broadcasting to you from Jerusalem; And in today’s top stories;
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelenskiy the site of the Babi Yar Massacre, reiterated that the state of Israel’s main
objective is to prevent a repetition of the dark past of the holocaust. The Hamas organization has issued a threat,
in which it warns Israel not to hinder the entry of Qatari-funds into the Palestinian
enclave and demands an immediate increase of the supply of electricity, or else, the
Islamist Palestinian factions will escalate the violence along the Gaza-Israel border. The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry
has conveyed “warnings to U.S. officials” not to apprehend its Grace 1 oil tanker, which
was released on Sunday, after Gibraltar authorities rejected a U.S. request to detain the vessel
further. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who concluded
an official state visit to Ukraine this afternoon, started his trip with a series of meetings
together with recently elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, during which the two
leaders signed three separate agreements in the fields of agriculture, trade and education,
amid increased efforts by Jerusalem and Kiev to bolster bilateral relations and expand
economic cooperation. During a joint press conference alongside
President Zelenskiy, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that an agreement was reached to
immediately start working on an expanded free trade agreement that will primarily focus
on reciprocal investments in the field of Hi-tech. Later in the day, Zelenskiy and Netanyahu
visited the Babi Yar ravine in Kiev, the location of the second biggest single massacre of the
Holocaust during World War II, by occupying Nazi soldiers and their local sympathizers. More than 33,000 Jewish men, women and children
were reportedly murdered at the site, separately from other documented massacres of Soviet
prisoners of war, communists, Ukrainian nationalists and Roma Gypsies, with an estimate of between
100 and 150 thousand victims during the entire duration of the Nazi occupation. Following a wreath laying ceremony, President
Zelenskiy asserted that the memory of the atrocities that happened at Babi Yar should
serve as a warning that an “ideology of intolerance and violence deprives of the most
precious and the most valuable thing which is a human life.” Prime Minister Netanyahu, for his part, reiterated
that the state of Israel’s main objective is to prevent a repetition of the dark past
of the holocaust. As such, the Jewish state will fight for its
survival against any oppressor. “Our main goal is to fight in order to prevent
the repetition of the Babyn Yar. / Babyn Yar is an awful tragedy for the humankind. / We will always defend our lives regardless
of anything and anyone.” Now to American state of Minnesota, where;
The two democratic congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar sought to demonize Israel’s
decision to bar their entry into the country, claiming it positions Muslim and Jewish Americans
against one another. In a press conference that was organized by
the two American Representatives, they focused their statements on attacking both Israel
and the Trump Administration for what they claimed ‘suppresses their ability to do
their jobs as elected officials’. Congresswoman Omar also proposed in her statement
that US-aid to Israel should be made contingent on equality for the Palestinians and an end
to Israel’s policy of settlement expansion in the West Bank, which includes the biblical
districts of Judea (where Eastern part of Jerusalem is situated), Samaria and the Jordan
Valley. It is important to mention that while Congresswomen
Tlaib and Omar provided a long list of condemnations of the Jewish State and its so-called treatment
of Palestinians, they did not talk about the reason for the Israeli decision, which cited
their active support for boycotting, imposing sanctions and encouraging international divestments
against the State of Israel. The Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem
refused to comment on this report. Now to the Gaza Strip, where;
The Hamas organization has issued a threat, in which it warns Israel not to hinder the
entry of Qatari-funds into the Palestinian enclave and demands an immediate increase
of the supply of electricity, or else, the Islamist Palestinian factions will escalate
the violence along the Gaza-Israel border. According to the Hezbollah-linked Al-Akhbar
News Agency, a Hamas source was quoted as saying: “if the enemy does not commit to
implementing the understandings, introducing Qatari funds, and increasing the amount of
electricity until the end of this week, it will escalate.” The Hamas official further mentioned Netanyahu’s
reluctance of going to war with the Islamist factions in the Gaza Strip, despite the Israeli
leader’s statement earlier this week, in which he insisted before traveling to the
Ukraine that his only consideration is the security of the Jewish State. While TV7 was not able to corroborate the
contents of Al-Akhbar’s report with our own Hamas source, a senior official of the
Islamist Palestinian group told TV7 that Hamas is focused on four tasks, which include: the
strategic bolstering of the Islamist group’s capabilities for the purpose of battling Israel,
to fight any American and Israeli plans with regard to Jerusalem, to preserve the right-of-return
for Palestinian refugees of 1948 and to foil all bids to integrate Israel into the region
by means of normalizing the Jewish state with the Arab world. Now with regard to the ongoing stand-off between
Iran and the West; The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry
has conveyed “warnings to U.S. officials” not to apprehend its Grace 1 oil tanker, which
was released on Sunday, after Gibraltar authorities rejected a U.S. request to detain the vessel
further. Despite a U.S. issued warrant for the seizure
of the tanker, including the oil it carries and nearly 1 million dollars, Gibraltar Authorities
said they could not comply with the American warrant because it was bound by EU law. The move infuriated U.S. officials, who termed
the vessel’s release as sheer weakness. In a televised interview with Fox News, U.S.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo referred to the decision to release the tanker as “unfortunate.” “Its unfortunate that, that happened. These are oil that when this is ultimately
sold somewhere into the market that will run back to the Qassem Sulaimani and the Iranian
Quds Force, there. Elite forces that have sown terror and destruction
and killed Americans all around the world. And now they will have, if they are successful,
and we hope that they are ultimately not, but if they are successful they will have
more money, more wealth, more resources to continue their terror campaign, to continue
their assassination campaign. This is what we are trying to stop, so it’s
very unfortunate. Weakness never is the right outcome.” Meanwhile in Helsinki, Finland;
Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underscored that the Islamic Republic
is not interested in talks with the United States. In a joint Press conference with Finnish Foreign
minister Pekka Haavisto, the top Iranian diplomat took the opportunity to lambast the United
States for its attempt to prolong the detention of the Iranian oil tanker, Grace 1. “Certainty the United States continues to
try to make more escalation by passing a rather, purely political court decision on this ship
which is a travesty of justice and law. Now because of U.S. sanctions we cannot be
very transparent with the destination of our oil because the United States illegally tries
to bully others from purchasing our oil.” The Finnish Foreign Minister, on his part,
talked about Europe’s continued efforts to support the 2015 nuclear agreement. Minister Haavisto also noted that while Helsinki
has not yet made its decision, it is considering joining the European INSTEX trade mechanism
that aims to bypass U.S.-imposed sanctions on Iran. Regarding the role of Europe supporting the
JCPoA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) in this difficult times, I think we are trying
to do our best of course on the European side. As I said, it’s the group of the E3 countries
that have been very crucial on this issue. We are also trying to look at different kinds
of financing mechanism including the proposed INSTEX (Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges)
mechanism and Finland is looking at it in a positive light, we have not made decisions
yet here but we have been looking at the possibility of joining the INSTEX mechanism.” For more information on Israel and its region
