Google’s New Robot Will Blow Your Mind

Google’s New Robot Will Blow Your Mind

YOU ABSOLUTELY
HAVE TO WATCH THIS VIDEO OF GOOGLE’S ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
ASSISTANT BOOKING A SEAT, NO, BOOKING A HAIR APPOINTMENT
WITH A REAL PERSON. WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE IS
GOOGLE’S NEW ASSISTANT AND IT IS COMPLETELY A ROBOT. THIS IS UTTERLY AUTOMATED, EVERY
BIT OF VOICE GENERATION COMES FROM THEIR ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE ENGINE AND IT IS ON THE PHONE WITH A REAL HAIR SALON
LOOKING AND APPOINTMENTS. TAKE A LOOK. HELLO, HOW CAN I HELP YOU? HI, I’M CALLING TO BOOK A
WOMAN’S HAIRCUT FOR A CLIENT. I’M LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ON MAY
3RD. SURE, GIVE ME ONE SECOND. MM-HMM. WHAT TIME YOU LOOKING FOR
AROUND? AT 12 PM. WE DO NOT HAVE A 12 PM AVAILABLE, THE CLOSEST WE
HAVE TO THAT IS A 1:15. DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING BETWEEN
10 PM AND 12 PM? DEPENDING ON WHAT SERVICE SHE
WOULD LIKE. WHAT SERVICE IS SHE LOOKING FOR? JUST A WOMEN’S HAIRCUT FOR
NOW. OKAY, WE HAVE A 10 O’CLOCK. 10 AM WORKS. OKAY, WHAT’S HER FIRST NAME? THE FIRST NAME IS LISA. OKAY, PERFECT. SO I WILL SEE LISA AT 10 O’CLOCK
ON MAY 3. OKAY GREAT, THANKS. GREAT. HAVE A GREAT DAY. BYE. THIS IS AMAZING TO ME. I USED TO BE AN ASSISTANCE OF
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. YOU TOLD ME NOT TO WATCH THIS
BEFORE NOW, AND I THINK YOU THOUGHT I WOULD BE SHOCKED, BUT
I LOVE IT. RIGHT CLUSTER BUT ARGUES SHOCKED THAT IT IS
THAT NATURAL A DISCOURSE BETWEEN A ROBOT AND A PERSON? YES IT. THE PAUSES, THAT
IS WHAT IT IS CALLED. THAT IS WHAT BRIDGES THE UNCANNY
VALLEY BETWEEN UNC READER WE HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE OF
INTEGRATING AI INTO NORMAL, EVERY DAY LIFE SERVING AS AN
ASSISTANT OFTEN AS THEY DO. BECAUSE OF THAT UNCANNY VALLEY
EXPERIENCE. THERE ARE A LOT OF PHONE
RECORDED SITUATIONS WITH UNSOPHISTICATED AI THAT SOUND
INSANE BECAUSE YOU CAN TELL IT IS NOT A PERSON ON THE OTHER
END. I REALLY LIKE THIS. I DON’T KNOW HOW LOCATED A GOOD
WORK BECAUSE I DEFINITELY HAVE BOOKED APPOINTMENTS WITH
HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS THAT HAD A LOT OF WEIRD STIPULATIONS
TO IT. I THINK IT DOES, IT CAN HAVE A
PERSON JUMP ONLINE AND HELP OUT. THE WAY THAT THEY TRAIN IT IS
THEY HAVE SOMEONE IN THE ROOM WITH IT WHO KNOWS WHAT WAY
TO ESSENTIALLY TRAIN THIS AI’S A BETTER HANDLE A
COMPLICATED SITUATION. WHAT DO YOU THINK? THIS IS CALLED GOOGLE
DUPLEX AND I THINK MORE INTERESTING TO ME WAS WATCHING
THE CROWD’S REACTION. THEY WERE CHEERING BEFORE THEY
WERE UNVEILING THE DEMO AND THEN THE LAUGHTER AT THE VOCALIZE TO
PAUSES AND THEN THE UMMS IN BETWEEN, THAT IS THE CONNECTOR
GAP. I AM KIND OF TORN AROUND THIS. I WOULD LOVE IT IF IT MITIGATES
AUTOMATED SYSTEMS BECAUSE THOSE THINGS FRUSTRATE THE HECK
OUT OF ME. PRESS ONE FOR THIS DEPARTMENT,
PRESS TWO, AND THEN YOU HAVE FOUND THAT YOU ARE THREE
STEPS IN AND STILL CANNOT FIND WHAT DEPARTMENT YOU NEED TO
GET TO SO I’D LOVE IN THAT REGARD IF WE CAN JUST COMPLETELY
ERASE THE SYSTEM AND REPLACE WITH THAT, IT WOULD BE
GREAT. I DON’T KNOW HOW I WOULD
PERSONALLY FEEL IF I WAS, I DON’T KNOW. DO YOU THINK THAT THAT WOMAN
AT THE SALON KNEW THAT THAT WAS A ROBOT? NO. NOT AT ALL. IT WAS GIVING A LITTLE WEIRD
ABOUT, A WOMEN’S HAIRCUT. SHE SAID 12 PM A LITTLE
WEIRD. I WAS AN ASSISTANT ALL THOSE
TONES THAT THE AI SYSTEM HIT WERE CORRECT. ALL THOSE WAYS TO BYPASS ANY
POTENTIAL WEIRDNESS BETWEEN YOU AND THE PERSON YOU NEED TO BOOK
AN APPOINTMENT FROM, IS 10 OKAY? WE HAVE ONE MORE VIDEO OF A MORE
COMPLICATED SITUATION WITH THE AI AND SOMEONE WHO HAS A
PRETTY THINK ACCENT WHO HAS TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING ENGLISH. LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THIS NEXT
VIDEO TO HI, MAY I HELP YOU? HI, I’D LIKE TO RESERVE A
TABLE FOR WEDNESDAY THE 7TH. FOR 7 PEOPLE? IT’S FOR FOUR PEOPLE. FOUR PEOPLE? WHEN? TODAY? TONIGHT? WEDNESDAY AT 6 PM. ACTUALLY, WE RESERVE FOR
UPWARDS OF FIVE PEOPLE. FOR FOUR PEOPLE, YOU CAN COME. HOW LONG IS THE WAIT
USUALLY TO BE SEATED? FOR WHEN? TOMORROW? THE WEEKEND? FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY, THE 7TH. OH NO, IT’S NOT TOO BUSY. YOU CAN COME FOR FOUR PEOPLE,
OKAY? OH, I GOT YOU. THANKS. YEAH, BYE-BYE. THEY ARE LAUGHING AT THAT
PERSON. I THINK SHE CAN UNDERSTAND
ENGLISH, SHE JUST HAS AN ACCENT. I JUST THINK SHE HAD TROUBLE
PARSING MADE A SEVEN, MAYBE IT WAS LOUD, WAS HAVING TROUBLE
UNDERSTANDING. HE SAID MAY 7 AND SHE SAID SEVEN
PEOPLE. MY GUESS IS IT WAS, GOOD LUCK,
ROBOT. AND THEN FINALLY THEY MADE IT THROUGH. THEY REALLY JUST CHARGE THROUGH
DIET WAS AMAZING. YEAH, LIKE I SAID THEY SAID
THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR A YEAR SO THE GOOGLE
ASSISTANT CAN UNDERSTAND NUANCES OF CONVERSATION AND I HAVE
WATCHES VIDEO BEFORE BUT WHAT OCCURRED TO ME AS WE WERE
REWRITING THIS AGAIN, WHAT IF THEY GOT TO APART WHERE THIS
ASSISTANT WAS CONVERTED INTO SOMEBODY WHO COULD ACTUALLY DO
COMMENTARY ON STORIES LIKE THIS, LIKE I AM WONDERING THE OTHER
SORT OF PHASES OF AI IN A SOPHISTICATED MANNER, RESPONDING
TO PEOPLE. I AM NOT SCARED OF AI TAKING
MY JOB. WHY NOT? WE ARE SO FAR OFF THAT. WE HAVE HEARD YOU ELON MUSK AND
BILL GATES SAY THIS BUT THAT FUTURE THEY ARE THINKING OF IS
SO FAR OFF AND IT IS NOT GOING TO DECIMATE THE AMERICAN
JOB MARKET, IT IS PROBABLY GOING TO TAKE A LOT OF JOBS THE MOST
PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO DO ANYWAY. CAN I SAY WHAT I REALIZED I
LOVE WHEN I THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT SELF DRIVING CARS
CAN ELIMINATE? HIGHWAY PATROL. WHY WOULD YOU NEED IT? TO CATCH
PEOPLE SMOKING WEED. IT WOULD ELIMINATE TRAFFIC
LIGHTS BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE TIMED PRECISELY IF THEY WERE
ALL AUTOMATED. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE
FUTURE OF SELF DRIVING CARS IS GO TO ARGENTINA AND MUCH AN
INTERSECTION. IT IS NOT SELF DRIVING CARS, IT
IS A BUNCH OF ARGENTINIANS KNOW HOW TO NOT HIT EACH OTHER
THE SCARES THE CRAP OUT OF EVERYONE AROUND. I WAS SITTING AT A CORNER, WE
WILL TALK ABOUT IN THE POST. THAT IS ALL GLOBAL SOUTH
COUNTRIES. IT WAS AMAZING, ONE OF MY
FAVORITE THINGS TO REACT TO. I WILL SAY THIS, I WAS AN
ASSISTANT AT A TALENT AGENCY AND THE JOB OF THE ASSISTANT WAS ONE
THAT TAUGHT ME ALL THE HIGHER-LEVEL THINGS THAT HAPPEN
IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY SO AS AN ENTRY-LEVEL JOB, I STARTED
IN THE MAILROOM. LITERALLY LOOKING AT THE
HOLLYWOOD, AS STOCK OF 50 HOLLYWOOD REPORTERS WITH A BUNCH
OF DIFFERENT NAMES ON IT AND SORTING IT TO THEY WENT TO
IN THE MAIL ROOM. THAT WAS THE BORING STUFF THAT
COULD BE DONE BY A ROBOT AT THAT TIME BUT IT WAS PART OF
THE JOB THAT TAUGHT ME MORE ABOUT THE INDUSTRY SO I COULD
EVENTUALLY MAKE MY WAY INTO IT. I AM AFRAID THAT ELIMINATING
ASSISTANT AND SCHEDULERS, PEOPLE WHO HAVE A JOB OF LEARNING ALL
THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF AN INDUSTRY COULD LEAD TO PEOPLE
NOT REALLY HAVING TO HIGHER LEVELS OF. AND WHAT DOESN’T ENTRY POINT
LOOK LIKE AT THAT POINT? MY JOB WAS TERRIBLE, I WAS
ALSO ANSWERING PHONES IN THE NEWSROOM. WISH I COULD’VE BEEN A ROBOT.

  • The computer voice on star trek , was a voice actor. Then on the same show was Harry Mudd and the androids and then the other episode with other androids and then You know science fiction has been talking about this and other events for decades, Foundation was first written in 1958 that is 70 years ago. This is not new. It scares you all because it is finally off the pages, and stepping up to you. On my blog which is called Future Tech, I have the parent storyline that hasn't made it online, but the AI in the company Future Tech (fictional one), is engineered a body that can procreate with the Special Projects Director, But you wouldn't know that till the end of the second book. It was a multi volume Autobiography of the person that was second in command of the company. The futurists in the room are standing and dancing saying Finally we are right.

Maytha Alhassen (the woman on the left) is really starting to annoy the crap out of me, everytime I hear her react!
Cenk, Ana, Hannah, John, Brett, Kim, and Mark all have their lesser moments, but she makes one silly remark after the other. (and I'm being respectfull here, by putting it mildly!)

They are all pretty intelligent and are usually vocalizing educated opinions. But to me, she sticks out like a sore thumb, with her just blurting things out, seemingly without any serious thought.

I am not a fan of her and imho TYT would be better off without her on screen.

  • "Oh.. (goofy look) I think she understands english. She just has an accent." PLEASE get someone intelligent on the dias -QUICK!

  • like a sophisticated situation where AI is 'respondingh to people." WHAT? Didn't she notice, the AI WAS responding to people?

  • Girl in the middle is wrong, its not so far off. AI along with robotics will take a lot of jobs, more than we care to admit.

  • Clayton Brown says:

Dude please don't wear a grey t shirt and a grey sweatshirt and look like you got out of bed 5 min ago when you want respect and credibility.

  • I too found this utterly amazing. A lot of people (predictably) found reason to be concerned or downright angry at this (no disclaimer at being a robot beforehand, etc.), but I just found this amazing, and the technology and progress incredible. To think this is yet really early going (in 2018!) and has so much room to grow, and already it's moving really fast.

  • um…. they'll say its far off until it happens. There are AI camps for misc labor, which means most jobs will be replaced. Of course they will sell it as "taking the jobs no one wants", like genetically modifying was sold as a new height of grandeur as far as biological potential and instead we got a cornered world market of fake food that causes cancer.

  • Now let's see this AI up against a Vietnamese nail salon. That'll be a better barometer of how far we've come.

  • Sir Charles Mormont says:

I am afraid of AI and other forms of automation taking my job. Part of my job is to answer phones. Part of the jobs of the two people whom the AI called is to answer phones. We're not really so far off. We need to start job re-training programs NOW – paid, proven programs that land people in real, prosperous jobs. Brett is completely right about this sort of technology having the potential to decimate the already difficult-to-find entry level!

  • It'll only take the jobs that pretty much nobody wants to do. But… isn't that pretty much all jobs? How many people actually want to do their job?

  • BIMBO FEMALES. The one in the center is a moron. Jobs people don't want to do. Try NEED to do, to live,.. Stupud stupid entitled female…

  • Just because we can build something, it does not necessarily follow that we should. Artificial intelligence is indeed humanities future, but like many people, I also fear it may be humanities end. If artificial intelligence can do everything a human can, sooner or later we will become obsolete while the artificial intelligence will only grow smarter and smarter, think about that, and about the possible ramifications. I know it’s an old argument, but this is the first time in human history that we risk being made obsolete by one of our own creations, I think they should seriously consider that before moving forward with this. Just imagine how many jobs will be taken by these artificial intelligence robots? We will be obsolete, leaving only a handful of very wealthy people, the rest of us?, We’re screwed!

  • I can do that. Not impressed at all. I've never ever, never, ever, ever, NEVER, ever, ever… heard of "a women's haircut" before. That's impressive.

  • Drivers' jobs are gonna go; warehouse pickers are almost already gone (watch a clip of an Amazon warehouse sometime); and now telemarketers and receptionists are on the chopping block. Answering phones is part of my job, so I feel the fear. The next presidential election had better be about UBI in some form, or we're in [even worse] trouble.

  • the unfortunate truth is that our population is at a place where the jobs "not everyone wants" are still needed to employ humans so they can afford to survive.

  • Let my perverted ex neighbor call that robot. He'd probably have her program glitching.
"Oh well you SURE sound pretty!"- "Are you as pretty as you sound?" –
    "What do you look like?"

  • I would rather listen to two robots tyt crew instead of the two girls this pannel excluding the guy in this video whom i don't find that annoying.

  • TheJackSparring says:

It is not the AI getting smarter, but the world getting dumber. The world is being redesingned so that it can be understood by algorithms.

"Universal literacy was supposed to educate the common man to control his environment. Once he could read and write he would have a mind fit to rule. So ran the democratic doctrine. But instead of a mind, universal literacy has given him rubber stamps, rubber stamps inked with advertising slogans, with editorials, with published scientific data, with the trivialities of the tabloids and the platitudes of history, but quite innocent of original thought. Each man's rubber stamps are the duplicates of millions of others, so that when those millions are exposed to the same stimuli, all receive identical imprints. It may seem an exaggeration to say that the American public gets most of its ideas in this wholesale fashion. The mechanism by which ideas are disseminated on a large scale is propaganda, in the broad sense of an organized effort to spread a particular belief or doctrine."

    Edward Bernays, Propaganda (1928)

  • You do realize, though that this spells doom for thousands of telemarketer and receptionist occupations, right? Those jobs were pretty much the last refuge of struggling high school grads without any other skills. Maybe next year Cenk will replace the three of you with Google's next A.I. upgrade. Fortunately, it'll be a "Lefty" model so they can just program it to say "racist" or 'Nazi" after every fifth word or so.

  • So soon the salon will have a robot too and we'll all be interfacing robot to robot. (Kind of like the stock market now)

    BONKERS!

  • JustScore Magazine says:

If you want to know the future of self-driving cars. Drive a Tesla! Frfr. It is freaking crazy! cool that is.

  • 12 employees quit Google because of Prject Maven and Pentagon & A.I. There has been a petition in Google signed by 4000 employees. There is an openletter signed by by 220+ academici in AI ethics and computer science, mostly in regard to project Maven. TYT is part of the problem. Hawkins said it. Singularity started…. you known not what you talk about.

  • halberthawkins says:

Interesting that the last time there was a Wednesday, May 7th was 4 years ago. This was scripted. Not to say Google duplex is fake, but this demo may have been.

  • great now people will need to learn to do things by them self other wise a robot will not help them properly i want to see this on tech support.

  • See, here's my thoughts: Once a business spends the bzillion dollars to purchase one of these expensive toys, they're going to want to get their money's worth out of it. So they buy it for filing and phone, etc. But then they think…what else do we have around here that this thing can do? Save us a few bucks on an employee, right? — You know they would cuz if WE bought an expensive thing like this for our home, we'd want to get every bit of that money out of it by seeing what all it could do!

  • Vital Chance says:

They came to see the "robot" (most likely just CGi, like Darpa's bulls!t), NOT you stupid asses talking about it — Young Turds

  • So many people speak broken English …and it gets annoying …they don’t bother to master basic grammar and pronouncing….

  • Johnny Fishfingers says:

The sooner people lose their jobs, the sooner the unemployment spikes and ends capitalism.

We have no fallback plan for when AI takes our jobs. Our plan is to smile while the ship is sinking. Ask politicians about what we'll do for jobs in the future and they just go blank.

I will always choose a bot over a human if I need to interact in some way in the same way that I would rather text than call.

  • I'm heavily invested into the computer field but even I am skeptical about AI having such an authentic voice like this. This easily can be used in negative if not nefarious activities. Criminals will be able to remotely call people with completely disguised voices for bomb threats or pretending to be someone else to authenticate credentials or apply for a credit card. This is letting a genie out of a bottle and will have to come with certain safeguards to keep it from being abused by the criminal element.

  • This isn’t a “robot”, you retards. By the one everyone, the A.I’s “natural voice” is actually pre-recorded stuff. The A.I decided what pre-recorded options to say. If you pay attention closely, the numbers in the voice conversation are not pre-recorded, so it sounds very weird compared to the rest of the things the A.I says.

  • DarkWater4Eva says:

Have that robot order Chinese food on the phone with someone that has a strong accent. That's when I will be impressed.

  • I'll feel offended when a robot will call me, as soon I would know if it's a robot calling me and not a person I'll hang up. Even further, if I notice that a client has booked a service at my company using a robot assistant I'll ask him/her in a friendly matter to leave the office and not to return ever. Period.

  • if that robot turned around and mocked that chinese accent then it would have been indistinguishable from a real human…

  • I don't think A.I will ever take over my A.I assistant on my cell phone is stupid and crashes my system so A.I has a long way😏

  • Of course the real test is when someone gets unprofessional with the bot. For example on the hair cut phone call, had the real woman at the office got an attitude how would the bot react, or had the real woman said something out of the blue like ahh i just spelt tea all over my keyboard. Ive written these bot programs before for general conversation, they do work best within a narrow expected response, but when the person talking to the bot talk about something else or random or unexpected to be within the general chat of the call, it fails terribly. That of course can be fixed with proper responses to guide the conversation back to the general ball park of the conversation, but it takes a lot of added programming.

  • "They'll probably take all the jobs no one wants to do anyways." Maybe they will take the entry level jobs first but it will be no time before they take the decision making jobs too. Guess that leaves hard labor jobs for us humans. Yeah, that sounds like jobs we all really want.

  • It's CREEPY how the people that endorse this technology are elevated in the algarythm searchers on the net but the people that warn you about the negative aspects of these technologies are deplatformed and censored!

  • think entrapment; better yet, impersonation. do you know who you are really talking to then? you made a mistake, you were, so you thought, talking to a friend or your mum.

the future is here, you're all just blind to it. and blind to all of it. all of it that's being done to/against you…

    Wake up.

  • I'm not worried about ai taking my job… it's Soooo far off…. You tell it girlfriend! It's gotta be like 3… 4 months at least!
