  • What if they did a sequel w/ Sam Neill. The ship is still out there. Returns years later. New crew. But do it right.

Saw this 'way back when', on the big screen, on acid. The 'liquid in zero gravity' thing was still new, only The Trek Undiscovered Country and T2 had similar effects. Holds up to this day which, imo, shows its class. Will always be in my 'All Time Top 10'. It's that good!

The second I saw the captain sitting in his adult sized swirling baby chair I could no longer take him seriously.

  • The good thing is that through the years the movie gained the popularity it deserves. So sooner or later we will receive a sequel, or a prequel even.

The bad thing is that sooner or later we will receive a sequel, or a prequel………….

  • Watched this movie for the first time on a head full of LSD, not intentionally mind you. Yeah that was not a good night

THIS MOVIE IS ONE OF THE REASONS I LOVE SCI-FI HORROR MOVIES/GAMES/ANYTHING THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF SCI-FI HORROR, PLUS THATS WHY MOVIES/GAMES THAT ARE SCI-FI HORROR DO SO WELL AND ARE STILL TALKED ABOUT JUST LIKE EVENT HORIZON, that being said there are alot of squeamish people who cant handle it or any horror stuff for that matter but thats their loss I think the majority of people like SCI-FI HORROR and people that are scared and squeamish WILL ALWAYS TRY AND OVERCOME THEIR FEARS AND WATCH A SCARY MOVIE, IN THIS DAY AND AGE PEOPLE ARE OVERLY DESENSITIZED AND HORROR MOVIES WILL DO BETTER AND BETTER AND I AM HAPPY FOR THAT πŸ™‚

an underrated gem and I believe a inspiration to the nightmare inducing visions in Dead Space and Dead Space 2

  • Event Horizon is, without any doubt in my mind, my favorite horror movie. Truly terrifying. Sadly underrated.

I think they went into an alternate universe (hell) if one believes in such stupidity. One of millions aka multi verse theory.
    Hellraiser?

  • This is an amazing movie. I am a huge horror movie fan, went in to this thinking it's a sci fi movie but got a horror masterpiece. Not a lot freaks me out but the scene where the got the video of the ship's log open got to me

  • I liked the movie but thought that it should have had another 45mins to explore and give more the viewer.

When I saw this I immediately thought of the Disney film The Black Hole (1979). I know that might sound odd but the story is similar, it's not a horror film and there are obvious differences it's Disney after all, but it also ends with a journey to hell.
The Black Hole is a neat mix of the 50-60's style and the post Star Wars/Alien films. It's dated but worth a watch, it's the last of the old style SiFi adventure films.

Can you do a review of Sphere the 1998 Dustin Hofman movie? I was surprised to see the similarities in the plot. At the time I thought it was a blatant copy of Event Horizon's themes.

  • Emmanuel Goldstein says:

If you watch the movie with the DVD commentary. The director says the ship is modeled after the Notre Dame. I remember reading somewhere that there was a theory that event horizon took place in the WH 40K universe which explains the aesthetic of the ship.

Stephen King wrote a short story called "THE JAUNT" and it was something similar to this. His was a WHAT IF centered around a technology like the Star Trek transporters. In this story there were similar ST. transporters, however you had to be unconscious to go through it. In the story there was a boy who decided he wanted to see what it was like to go through awake and somehow faked being unconscious. ***SPOILERS DONT READ FURTHER***** He manages to go through but ends up insane similar to what the Event crew ended up like. He is gibbering about what he saw and it had driven him insane. Basically they emerge instantaneously through the transport, but if awake it feels like you were there for millions of years alone thus driving one mad. The boy starts running amok through the transport station and the story ends there. I think some of this Stephen King short was inspiration to this movie.
