  • But we just buy one copy of the songs and share them for free very legally. There's no money in the record, just the tickets.

  • His personality is certainly an acquired taste. Like he is genuinely kind of a dick. But it's an honest kind of being a dick. He doesn't care if he pisses off others, and he doesn't seem to be too malicious in it. It doesn't feel forced. It just adds to his genuineness which is part of his appeal.

Honestly it's fascinating how the guy who hides his face in any show is one of the most open and honest celebs out there.

  • Hi Alex. Thanks for making this video. Iโ€™ve liked it and itโ€™s not even halfway through. I love how a lot of your content can be so niche and yet very original. As an artist itโ€™s alwaus good to know this stuff. Cheers – Arron

  • E duh M … as electronic music entered the american mainstream, it was butchered, reduced to circus entertainment, and super-stars (mediocrity and ego) stepped into the arena with huge lasers and visual blitzkrieg .. Mcdonald's of electronic music … Yet this idol worship must go on and on …

  • ""A musicians key responsibility is growing a community" ? what utter bullshit – their key responsibility is making music – the community thing is not primary but secondary…One big reason DM is so famous with so little marketing is cos he actually really really really really good…he is not an average electronic musician – his stuff has been genre defining/groundbreaking etc etc…

So…the title made me think this was an interview with deadmau5 about how to market. Disliking and moving on.

  • no, fans are ripping off musicians and not buying music !
They can't do that at a event.. hence the focus changed.

  • Hope it's okay? I thought I'd plug my own channel here. It's dark, different and I get good reviews. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUbeR576YXMNHDI3Egm5_QA Seems like I have to try different ways to get subscribers and followers on YT and Spotify. Thought I'd try this, especially as the video here seems to promote all new ideas!

  • well pop music is simply trash. a team of like 20 people are behind it, and the pretty face gets the credit even though someone else writes the lyrics, and someone else makes the music. and hell, even then there's alot of autotuning

This video makes me think of Jeff Kaplan from Overwatch. Not at all a trained spokesperson but the community adores him.

  • That is super interesting, didn't even know about how he's running business. Thought he was making super cool music and that's it. Really interesting to see how he went about it. Thanks you for that video!

Deadmau5 once pranked Skrillex by wearing a tshirt with Skrillex's personal phone number. Gotta love Joel for that alone

  • Are you sure the money was made off of paid media? I would imagine everything from photoshoots, art, printing, distribution, sellers cut from a $15-$20 CD would all cost a LOT more than putting on a $40-$100 concert (times however many people show up). I think events have always been where the money is.
