BYU Football – Coordinators’ Corner – October 28, 2019

[ MUSIC ] [ CHEERS ] Greg: GOOD MONDAY, AND ONCE AGAIN, COUGAR NATION, WELCOME TO STUDIO C. THE BYUTV STUDIOS IN PROVO, UTAH, THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER’S PRESENTED BY THE BURGER BOYS. COMING UP, BYU’S OFFENSIVE AND SPECIAL TEAMS. COORDINATOR, JEFF GRIMES AND ED LAMB, TO HELP US LOOK BACK AT THE LAST WEEK AND THE WEEK AHEAD. USE THE HASHTAG, CC BYU. AND WE’LL CHECK OUT SOME SOCIALIPEDIA LATER IN THE SHOW. WE WELCOME BACK IN, JEFF GRIMES, AND GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN.>>Jeff: GOOD TO BE BACK. Greg: BEFORE WE GET TO BOISE STATE, WHICH IS THIS WEEKEND, BYU IS COMING OFF OF A SECOND BYE WEEK NOW. AND YOU’VE BEEN DEALING WITH EVERY SITUATION AT QUARTERBACK.>>Jeff: YEAH, NOT ONLY AT QUARTERBACK, BUT SEVERAL POSITIONS, WHICH HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE FOR US, BUT GOOD TIME TO AT LEAST HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO LET SOME GUYS RECOVER FROM INJURIES HOPEFULLY, AND BUILD SOME DEPTH. Greg: YOU DIDN’T HAVE JAREN HALL FOR THE BOISE STATE WIN. BUT IS HE BACK AND GOOD TO GO FOR THIS WEEK?>>Jeff: HE SHOULD BE, AND BASED ON WHAT WE ARE SEEING THIS WEEK, WE BELIEVE HE WILL BE READY TO GO. Greg: BECAUSE JAREN WAS THE STARTER BEFORE HE GOT KNOCKED OUT OF THE GAME WITH TAMP –>>Jeff: WE HAVE NOT DECIDED YET. BOTH OF THOSE GUYS HAVE DONE GOOD THINGS AT VARIOUS TIMES, SO WE DECIDED TO PLAY IT OUT AND USE THE PRACTICE TIME. Greg: BOTH GUYS IN THEIR FIRST STARTS HAD GOOD GAMES.>>Jeff: YES, BOTH OF THEM HAVE DONE POSITIVE THINGS, AND BOTH OF THEM WILL BRING POSITIVE THINGS TO THE TABLE. BOTH ARE TEAM GUYS, AND IF YOU CAN START BOTH, I THINK, IT’S NOT REALLY FEASIBLE, AT LEAST NOT WITH OUR OFFENSE? Greg: AND YOU SAID IN THE BROADCAST BEFORE, YOU’VE BEEN ON TEAMS WITH NO GOOD QUARTERBACKS, AND NOW YOU HAVE MULTIPLE GOOD QUARTERBACKS.>>Jeff: NO QUESTION ABOUT THAT. I’VE BEEN ON TEAM WHERE WE DIDN’T HAVE ANY, AND ON OTHERS WHERE IF YOUR STARTER IS KNOCKED OUT, YOU’RE IN TROUBLE. MOST TEAMS I’VE BEEN ON HAVE BEEN THAT WAY, AND CERTAINLY, IF YOU’RE DOWN TO NUMBER THREE, YOU’RE IN TROUBLE. I WAS PROUD OF BAYLOR AND PROUD OF THE GROUP. WE WERE DOWN TO THREE GUYS ON OFFENSE AND RUNNING BACK. SO TO HAVE THAT MANY NEW FACES STEP IN AND PLAY SUCH CRITICAL ROLES, I THOUGHT IT WAS A REALLY POSITIVE THING FOR THEM AND OUR TEAM? Greg: SO WITH OUT THE NUMBER TWO, JAREN HALL, AND WITH OUT THE NUMBER-ONE QUARTERBACK, BYU WELCOMED IN AGAINST BOISE STATE, SECOND TIME THIS YEAR THAT BYU BEATS A RANKED TEAM AT HOME. AND IT’S THE FIRST TIME THAT HAPPENED IN SCHOOL HISTORY.>>Jeff: I DIDN’T REALIZE THAT. Greg: NUMBER 24, BOISE STATE, AND HEADING INTO THE BYE WEEKEND, THERE WERE ONLY EIGHT TEAMS NATIONALLY WITH RANKED TEAMS THIS YEAR. SO YOU DIDN’T HAVE, AS YOU SAID, THE TOP TWO TEAMMATES AVAILABLE. YOU ALREADY LOST WILLIAMS.>>Jeff: HE GOT IN LATE. AND HE HAS A FOOT/TOE INJURY THAT HE HAS BEEN DEALING WITH, AND HE HAS NOT BEEN FULL SPEED FOR SOME TIME. HOPEFULLY THE BYE WEEK DID HIM GOOD LAST WEEK, AND HE COULD HAVE PLAYED IF WE HAD TO HAVE HIM. BUT THE CONDITION HE WAS IN WAS NOT ONE THAT WOULD PUT HIM IN FRONT OF THE OTHER GUYS, SO WE WERE DOWN BOTH OF THOSE, AND THEN WE HAD FOUR LINEMEN OUT FOR THE GAME. SO BLAKE GOT HIS FIRST START. AND CLARK BARRINGTON GOT HIS SECOND. AND WE WERE REALLY DOWN A NUMBER OF GUYS, BUT LIKE I SAID, PROUD OF HOW THOSE GUYS STEPPED AND UP I THINK THAT EVERYBODY THAT PLAYED CONTRIBUTED AND WE SAW A NUMBER OF GUYS. ONE OF THE THINGS WE TALK ABOUT WITH COACHING IS WHETHER IT WILL BE TOO BIG FOR SOMEONE OR NOT, AND YOU DON’T KNOW FOLLOW YOU PUT THEM UNDER THE LIGHTS, AND IT SHOWED THAT ARE THEY WERE READY? Greg: YOU ADD THE COMPONENT, TENACIOUS BOISE STATE DEFENSE, AND BY THE WAY, IF THEY GET A BIG WIN, IT’S A TESTAMENT TO THE REVOLVING DEPTH ON THE TEAM.>>Jeff: I THINK SO, AND THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT. AND WE HAVE A LOT OF GOOD, YOUNG PLAYERS, AND IT SPEAKS TO THE TEAM. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I SPOKE TO THE OFFENSE ABOUT ON SATURDAY, OTHER TEAMS WHO HAVE BEEN IN SOMEWHAT SIMILAR POSITION THAT’S I’VE BEEN PART. I REFERENCED STANFORD EARLIER IN THE SEASON, AND THEY HAD ONE OF THEIR FIVE STARTERS OUT EARLY IN THE GAME, AND THEY PLAYED ALL SIX WHO ADDRESSED. I SAID IN ORDER FOR THAT SORT OF THING AND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I REFERENCED IN MY OWN CAREER, WHAT WAS THE CASE? AND THE COMMENT WAS, WELL, THOSE GUYS HAVE TO BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES AND THE TEAMMATES HAVE TO BELIEVE THIS THEM. THEY HAVE TO BELIEVE IN THE GUYS GOING INTO THE GAME. SO ITS A TESTAMENT NOT ONLY FOR THEM, BUT THE OVERALL STRENGTH OF OUR UNIT.>>LOOKING AT SOME OF THE DETAILS, YOU’RE DOWN 10-7 AT THE BREAK, AND THEN YOU TOTALLY TURNED THE GAME IN IN THE THIRD QUARTER.>>Jeff: WHATEVER PLAY WE CALL THAT QUARTER,. Greg: WELL, THE SCORING PLAYS IN THE THIRD QUARTER WERE ALONG THE TOUCHDOWN. AND THE FIRST TOUCHDOWN OF THE COUGARS.>>Jeff: I’M SO PROUD THAT HAVE KID. LAST YEAR,EST A FRESHMAN AND HE WASN’T QUITE READY. LEARNING THE OFFENSE, AND AT TIMES, BEING FRUSTRATED LIKE SO MANY GOOD HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS WHO COME INTO A GOOD COLLEGE PROGRAM. BUT THIS YEAR, IT HAS WORKED SO WELL AND HAD A POSITIVE ATTITUDE EVERY DAY. SO I KNEW THAT HE WAS GOING TO BE PRIMED FOR A BREAKOUT GAME BEFORE LONG, AND I’M PROUD OF HIM? Greg: THE TOUCHDOWN PASSES TO MATT BUSHMAN, FIRST UP, THE 4th AND ONE CALL FOR THE BOISE STATE 27.>>Jeff: THIS IS A PLAY THAT WE PUT N WE DISCUSSED IT AS AN OFFENSIVE STAFF A FEW TIMES, AND IT’S A PLAY THAT I LEARNED IN A ROUNDABOUT WAY FROM THE BOISE STATE COACHING TREE, I COACHED AND JOINED HAWK AT COLORADO WITH A NUMBER OF GUYS, SELF OF WHICH ARE AT BOISE RIGHT NOW. A PLAY WE RAN IN COLORADO. AND IT’S A PLAY THAT HAD ITS ORIGINATION AT BOISE STATE. AND MAYBE IT WAS BEFORE THAT, SO IT WAS KIND OF FUNNY TO CALL THAT PLAY AGAINST BOISE, BUT I FELT IT WOULD BE THERE. A VERY AGGRESSIVE AND ZERO COVERAGE TEAM. AND I FELT LIKE WE WOULD HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY.>>AND WAS THERE A LITTLE BIT OF AN ELEMENT ON THAT FIRST PLAY?>>Jeff: YES, THERE WAS, AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN AN UNDERCENTER TEAM A LOT. WE HAD A COUPLE OF QUARTERBACK SNEAKS, AND WE MADE IT LOOK LIKE THAT, LIKE HE MAY HAVE DROPPED THE BALL, AND THEN MADISON ON THE BLOCK, AND THEN IT POPPED OPEN. I THOUGHT THAT THE PLAY WAS EXECUTED TO PERFECTION? Greg: IT AND KAUFUSI –>>Jeff: WE HAD A GREAT PLAY ON IT EARLIER IN THE SEASON, AND THIS IS A PLAY THAT A-ROD BROUGHT TO OUR STAFF. HE HAS USED IT WHEN HE WAS AT OTHER PLACES AND WE LOOKED AT OTHER TEAMS RUN THE SAME PLAY. WE WATCHED ARIZONA STATE ON FILM. AND TEXAS TECH ON FILM, AND IT’S A GOOD PLAY THAT CAN YOU CALL MORE THAN ONCE ON A SEASON. LIKE I SAID, THIS IS NUMBER TWO FOR US, AND IT’S NOT ONE THAT YOU CAN USE EVERY WEEK, BUT IT’S ONE THAT YOU CAN PULL OUT EVERY FOUR OR FIVE GAMES.>>AND I THOUGHT I SAW A PARTICULAR PLAY BY THE RAMS. REMINISCENT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FILED. AND ONE THAT HAD MATT BUSHMAN ON TO A BIG NIGHT. LEADING THE TEAM IN RECEPTIONS AND RECEIVING YARDS NOW, WHICH HE HAS, NOT COINCIDENTLY, MATT BUSHMAN WAS THE PLAYER OF THE WEEK.>>HE DID BIG THINGS BEHIND THE SCENES THAT MOST PEOPLE WOULDN’T NOTICE. AND JUST HIS BLOCKING, I THOUGHT WAS IMPROVED. AND IT REALLY HAD DIFFICULT BLOCKS AT TIME WITH REALLY TALENTED DEFENSIVE ENDS, WHO PLAYED REALLY PHYSICAL, AND I THOUGHT THAT MATT DID A NICE JOB. SO THE WAY HE PLAYED. AND I FELT LIKE HE IS EMERGING, OBVIOUSLY NOT OBVIOUSLY HE HAS BEEN A PLAYMAKER FOR THREE YEARS NOW, BUT HE’S AN EMERGING LEADER ON THE TEAM. AND HE HAS GROWN IN THAT REGARD AS WELL. Greg: WHEN THE TIME COMES TO GO TO THE NEXT LEVEL, HOW MUCH DOES IT DEPEND ON A GOOD RECEIVER?>>Jeff: IT DEPENDS ON THE TEAM AND WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR, SOME WILL TAKE A GUY WHO WILL DO BOTH. AND OTHERS A GUY IN COLLEGE, IN A BLOCKING PORTION OF THE GAME. I THINK EVERYBODY WANTS TIGHT ENDS WHO CAN DO BOTH. EACH TEAM MAY PUT A DIFFERENT WEIGHT ON T.>>DO YOU THINK THAT MATT IS A NEXT LEVEL GUY?>>Jeff: YES, HE HAS AS GOOD AR BETTER BALL SKILLS THAN ANYBODY I’VE BEEN AROUND. AND HE HAS BECOME A BETTER BLOCKER AND HE HAS WORKED ON HIS ROUTE RUNNING. THAT’S SOMETHING THAT’S UNDERVALUED A LOT. THE ABILITY TO GET OFF OF COVERAGE, AND THAT’S SOMETHING THAT’S IMPORTANT FOR HIM. AND IT’S GOING TO BE MORE IMPORTANT BECAUSE THEY DON’T LET GUYS LIKE THAT BEAT THEM VERY OFTEN. OFTEN, THEY WILL GET DOUBLE COVERAGE, AND IF THEY HAVE A GUY THAT’S GOOD ENOUGH, PARTICULARLY WHEN HE’S SPLIT OUT, TO KEEP HIM FROM GETTING ON THE LINE. SO HE’S INVOLVED IN YEAR IN THAT AND OTHER FACES OF THE GAME. Greg: [ UNINTELLIGIBLE ]>>Jeff: I DON’T THINK SO. SKILL SET. INTO WE NEED TO MENTION BRIEFLY HOW BYU STEALS THE DEAL IN THE BOISE STATE GAME. OFFENSIVE DEFENSIVE, THE DISCUSSION, YOU COULD BRING US INTO THAT ON HOW TO GO FOR THAT POSITION IN THE GAME OR PUNTING IT AWAY.>>OBVIOUSLY, THAT WAS A KEY DECISION, AND HONESTLY, I DON’T THINK THAT KALANI CONSIDERED ANYTHING ELSE. HE KNEW WHAT HE WANTED TO DO THERE, AND THAT SHOWS THE CONFIDENCE IN OUR TEAM, NOT ONLY THE PLAYERS TOUCHING THE BALL. BUT THAT PLAY IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE TEAM.>>AND A GOOD SCAL THERE, OR IN THIS CASE?>>I THINK THAT YOU HAVE A NUMBER OF THINGS GOING FOR YOU THERE. YOU HAVE A GUY WHO IS VERY CONFIDENT WITH THE BALL IN HIS HANDS, AND YOU HAVE A BIG GROUP OF GUYS ON THE FIELD. CYRUS TONGA, AND ONE OF OUR BEST PLAYERS INVOLVED. YOU PUT THE BEST PLAYERS ON THE FIELD AND GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO WIN THE GAME. Greg: [ UNINTELLIGIBLE ] GOOD STUFF, AND THAT’S HOW IT ENDED UP. GOOD TIME. AND A REMINDER THAT BYU FOOTBALL WITH KALANI SITAKE IS ON THE BYUTV APP. AND WATCH IT ON BYUTV. MORE WITH OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, JEFF GRIMES>>OPTION LEFT; OPENING AND THERE IT IS, TOUCHDOWN,? Greg: WE’RE BACK IN THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER WITH BYU OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, JEFF GRIMES, AND BYU IS NOW 3 AND 4 ON THE SEASON, AND NEXT UP, IT’S UTAH NEXT SATURDAY IN LOGAN AND MORE ON THAT GAME COMING UP LATER. LEFTOVERS FROM THE LAST GAME. AND BAYLOR ROMNEY, MAKING HIS FIRST START, AND AS A FRESHMAN, HE STARTED FOR KALANI SITAKE, AND BAYLOR HAD THE MOST PASSING YARDS. AND WITH A PASS EFFICIENCY RATING OF 125. ANY TIME YOU GET NORTH OF 150, YOU WIN THE GAME. AND HOW DID BAYLOR PERFORM OVERALL?>>GREAT OVAL. BUT ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE THAT HE WAS PLACED IN AGAINST A REALLY GOOD TEAM. A TEAM THAT I THINK WAS WELL COACHED SO I THOUGHT HE DID A TREMENDOUS JOB, LIKE I WOULD HAVE SAID AGAINST ZACH ORIGIN. BUT REALLY PLEASED WITH WHAT HE DID IN THE FIRST START.>>THE PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE PODIUM, HE’S CHILLED OUT AND IS THIS HOW HE WAS?>>YES.>>Jeff: I CAME OFF THE FIELD AFTERWARDS AND I SAID HEY, OF COURSE IT WAS A GOOD FIRST SERIES, AND I SAID WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT FIRST PLAY? AND HE SAID I GOT MIXED UP, COACH, I WAS REALLY NERVOUS, BUT AFTER THAT, HE WAS VERY CALM. AND POISED AND AS I SAID EARLIER, HE’S A GUY WHO IS COMFORTABLE IN THAT SORT OF SETTING? Greg: RETURNING TO YOUR OFFENSIVE LINE FOR A MOMENT, IN THE FIRST SEASON LAST YEAR, YOU HAD ALMOST UNINTERRUPTED CONTINUITY ON THE FRONT FIVE, AND IT HAS NOT BEEN THAT CASE THIS YEAR.>>Jeff: NO, A FORGOTTEN GUY, PLAYING FOR US FOR TWO YEARS, AND HE’S A REALLY GOOD PLAYER, AND WE’VE MIXED HIM SINCE EARLY IN THE SEASON, AND THEN WE LOST TRISTEN A FEW WEEKS AGO, AND WE LOST KEANU AND SHAOF IN THE FIRST GAME. BUT WHEREVER IT’S A CHALLENGE, THERE’S AN OPPORTUNITY, RIGHT? SO I FELT LIKE IN THIS GAME, THE GUYS STEPPED UP AND PLAYED BETTER AS A GROUP. COACH MATTEO, HE’S WORKING WITH THOSE GUYS, AND ALSO THE ABILITY TO PLAY WITH A DIFFERENT GROUP? Greg: SO ON THE O LINE, WHO IS OUT FOR THE YEAR AND WHO DO YOU EXPECT TO BE BACK EITHER THIS WEEK OR MOVING FORWARD.>>Jeff: WELL, SHAOF IS DONE FOR SURE, AND THINK THAT I KIEFER LONGSON, MAYBE, THOUGH WE DON’T HAVE A TIMETABLE FOR THAT, AND I THINK KEANU, AND PROBABLY THE MOST LIKELY TO GET HIM BACK SOONER THAN LATER. AND HOBBS IS UNKNOWN AS WELL. WE COULD GET HIM BACK IN A WEEK OR TWO, OR MAYBE NOT AT ALL. SO STILL A LOT OF INSTABILITY THERE AND A LOT OF UNKNOWNS, BUT I FEEL BETTER GOING INTO THE GAME WITH MORE PRACTICE TIME. AND THE SITUATION PRIOR TO THE BOISE GAME.>>SINCE YOU BROUGHT UP THAT SITUATION, BECAUSE OF THE TIME HE HAS SPENT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL ALREADY, AND RED SHIRT WHEN A LITTLE BIT OLDER, BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION DOES HE HAVE MORE COLLEGE BALL IN HIM? AND THINKING THAT WAY?>>I HAVE NOT TALKED WITH HIM ABOUT THAT AT ALL. AND WOULDN’T BEGIN TO SPECULATE WHAT HE’S THINKING, BUT HE’S A GOOD PLAYER WITH STILL HIS BEST FOOTBALL IN FRONT OF HIM. SO I HOPE THAT WE’LL SEE HIM AROUND HERE FOR A WHILE.>> AWHILE. Greg: THE POTENTIAL, SO TALL. AND IS THIS GOING TO BE A RED SHIRT YEAR FOR HIM AND IS HE PLAYING BECAUSE OF THE INJURY SITUATION?>>Jeff: I THINK WE HAVE KNOWN ALL LONG THAT HE’S A GUY WHO MIGHT BE PRESS FOOD DUTY IF WE LOST SOME GUYS, BUT WE DIDN’T THINK IT WAS A STRONG POSSIBILITY EARLY IN THE YEAR, AND HE’S A GUY THAT WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH, AND WE HAVE BEEN IMPRESSED WITH HIM ON PRACTICE, BUT A LARGER PART, HIM GETTING READY. AND THIS IS A GUY THAT TWO YEARS AGO, HE WAS PLAYING QUARTERBACK IN HIGH SCHOOL. SO QUARTERBACK HIS JUNIOR YEAR, AND TIGHT END HIS SENIOR YEAR, AND NOT ONLY WAS THIS HIS FIRST START, BUT IT WAS HIS FIRST YEAR TO PLAY OFFENSIVE LINE. I THINK THAT THE SKY IS THE LIMIT. AND AS I HELPING, THEY HAVE GREAT PLAYERS ON IN THE DEFENSIVE END. Greg: ALL OF THAT SAID, YOU ARE PLEASED WITH BLAKE.>>Jeff: YES, I AM. I LIKE THAT KID AND HE HAS A WORLD OF POTENTIAL. Greg: BACK IN THE DAY, SAN DIEGO STATE. SO AS YOUR CAREER AS SIDELINE COACH. AND THEN WHY DID YOU WANT TO GET BACK DOWNSTAIRS?>>I JUST FELT OUR TEAM NEEDED A LITTLE BIT MORE SOMETHING, AND I DON’T NECESSARILY THINK I’M THE GUY THAT HAS ALL OF THAT OR ALL OF THE ANSWERS. BUT I COULD HELP. AND AS YOU SAID, I SPENT MOST OF MY CAREER ON THE SIDELINES, AND MY ABILITY TO CHALLENGE PLAYERS IS SOMETHING THAT’S A STRENGTH OF MINE. I STARTED OUT LAST YEAR, AND THEN WE HAD THE SWITCH AND STYLES, AND WE WENT TO THE NO HUDDLE SYSTEM, AND BACK TO THE BOX, AND I FELT IT WAS TIME FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. AND I ENJOYING ON THE SIDELINES, AND ALSO, TO SAY THAT I COULDN’T DO THAT IF I DIDN’T HAVE OTHER REALLY GOOD COACHES ON THE STAFF. ON TOP AND ON THE FIELD. AND PARTICULARLY ON THE TOP. AND I CAN’T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT ROGER, WHO CALLS THE GAME WITH ME EVERY WEEK, AND WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THE SHE’D AND HE MIGHT SAY WHAT ABOUT THAT? AND I SAY WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS PLAY. HE AND I HAVE BEEN DOING IT TOGETHER NEXT TO EACH OTHER. HE HAS CALLED A LOT OF PLAYS, AND FESI, AND MATTEO, STEVE CLARK, AND AJ, AND IT HAS BEEN A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT THE WHOLE SEASON ANYWAY, SO I DIDN’T HAVE ANY QUALMS ABOUT GOING ON THE FIELD. MAINLY BECAUSE I TRUST A ROAD AND STEVE IN THE BOX. Greg: SO THINGS GOING WELL, AND ARE YOU GOING TO STAY ON IT?>>Jeff: THERE’S A STRONGER CHANCE I’LL BE ON THE FIELD.>>A-ROD, YOU ARE PASS COORDINATORS.>>YES, HE’S A GREAT COACH WITH A LOT OF EXPERIENCE, AND I WOULD BE FOOLISH TO NOT LEAN ON HIM A LOT. BUT LIKE I SAID, THERE ARE OTHER GUYS WHO AT VARIOUS TIMES THROUGHOUT THE SEASON SAY HEY, WHAT ABOUT THIS PLAY? AND I CALLED IT RIGHT AWAY. AND SO IT HAS REALLY BEEN A GROUP EFFORT FROM THE BEGINNING, AND I HAVE A GREAT STAFF. Greg: JUST FUN TO BE DOWNSTAIRS?>>Jeff: YES, A LOT MORE FUN DOWNSTAIRS. Greg: A REMINDER, JCWs AFTER THE GAME. SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY, STEAKS TO SALADS. LEHI AND AMERICAN FORK. BYU RADIO COVERAGE BEGINS WITH COUGAR PREGAME LIVE. ON BYU RADIO, COMING UP NEXT, THE FINAL SEGMENT WITH OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, JEFF GRIMES, BROUGHT TO YOU ON THE Greg: THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER, BROUGHT TO YOU BY JCW, THE BURGER BOYS. AND COMING OFF OF THE SECOND BYE WEEK THIS YEAR, BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS SEASON. WHILE BYU WAS OFF, THE AGGIES WERE PLAYING AIR FORCE. AND JEFF GRIMES, EARLY WEEK THOUGHTS ON THE AGGIES.>>Jeff: WELL, I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR GARY ANDERSON AND THEIR DEFENSIVE STAFF. I COACHED AGAINST GARY BEFORE. AND WHEN I WAS AT AUBURN, HE WAS AT UTAH STATE. AND THEY CAME DOWN, SO I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR HIM AND THE WAY HIS TEAMS PLAY, ALWAYS COUPLE OF AND PHYSICAL, WELL COACHED AND I DON’T KNOW IF THEY WILL BE THE SAME. BUT I’M SURE THEY WILL BOUNCE BACK FOR THIS GAME. THE GAME SENSE AIR FORCE, YOU ALMOST WISH THAT HAPPENED. AND YOU FIND OUT WHAT THEY REALLY GOT. BUT EITHER WAY, THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE BUN WHERE THEY GIVE THEIR BEST SHOT. THEIR DEFENSE TYPICALLY HAS PLAYED WELL. AND MADE THINGS HARD. AND NOT GIVEN UP BIG PLAYS, AND THEY HAVE BEEN SOUND. SO I THINK THAT’S WHAT WE’LL SEE ON SATURDAY.>>STILL, AIR FORCE, THEY RAN FOR ALMOST 450 AGAINST UTAH STATE OVER THE WEEKEND.>>Jeff: SO MUCH OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS ABOUT WEEK TO WEEK, MATCHUPS, AND MOTIVATION, AND I FOUND THAT THE TRANSIT OF PROPERTY WE LEARN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, THAT’S NOT TRUE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL. SOMETIME C IS GREATER THAN A. AND LIKE I SAID, I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR THEM, AND I’M SURE THAT WE’LL GET THEIR BEST SHOT.>>AS, ALLOWED 24 OR FEWER IN ALL OF THEIR WINS. 24 OR MORE, 20 AND 3. AND IT’S A HUGE NUMBER, BUT BYU IS 18 AND 1 NOW, AND THEY SCORED 28 PLUS. YOU WANT TO BE IN THE HIGH 20s, AND LOW 30s, RIGHT?>>YES, AS AN OFFENSIVE TEAM, YOU’RE PART OF A TEAM, BUT AS AN OFFENSIVE UNIT, YOU WANT TO FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN DO TO WIN, AND I THINK OUR ENTIRE TEAM PLAYS BETTER WHEN WE PLAY BETTER ON OFFENSE. ON THE OTHER HAND, THAT MIGHT GO WITH OUT SAYING, BUT I THINK OUR DEFENSE FEEDS OFF OF US, SO WHEN WE SCORE, I SEE A BETTER DEFENSE ON THE FIELD. SO WE’RE RESPONSIBLE NOT ONLY TO SCORE POINTS, BUT TO GIVE THE DEFENSE HOPE AND LIFE. AND ADD TURNOVERS, AND IT HAS A RECIPROCLE EFFECT. Greg: BYU HAS 18 STRAIGHT WINS W. THE MARGIN, AND THE REASON I LOVE THAT STAFF SO MUCH, IT’S A TEAM STAFF. A MEDIA QUESTION FROM STEVEN FREEMAN. HE SAID COACH N. ALL OF YOUR TIME IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN AN AWARD COOLER THAN THE PORTER ROCKWELL OF THE WEEK?>>I THINK THAT HE HAS DONE A GREAT JOB IN RELATING TO THESE GUYS AND BECOMING THEIR SECOND DAD OR UNCLE, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THEM. I THINK THAT HE HAS A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM AND THEY TRUST HIM. AND THAT’S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY TAKE PRIDE IN. AND ONE THING THAT I LOOK FORWARD TO, I MAKE SURE THAT I’M IN THE MEETING WHERE HE SAYS WHO GETS THAT AWARD AND WHO PLAYED THE BEST OF THE WEEK. HE CAME UP WITH THAT, AND I THINK IT’S A COOL THING FOR A LINEMAN TO GRAB ONTO, AND I THINK OUR GUYS ARE GROWING. Greg: CAN THERE BEEN A FUN UNCLE? CAN THERE BE THAT TOO?>> TOO?>>Jeff: HE IS THE FUN UNCLE. MORE SO THAN ME, BUT HE IS BE THE GUY THAT SNAPS ON THEM IN AN INSTANT. Greg: COACH, WE’LL SEE YOU IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. BEST OF LUCK. THAT’S COACH JEFF GRIMES. BYUTV, GETTING READY TO KICK OFF WITH UTAH STATE THIS SATURDAY. WATCH COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF ON SATURDAY ON BYU RADIO AND BEAUTY BEAUTIFUL RETURNING TO POST-GAME COVERAGE AFTERWARDS. JOINING, EDID ON COORDINATOR’S CORNER. C>>JOE, 38 ON HIS LAST BOOT. HIFO RUNS UP TO IT, AND IT’S HIFO, THE 15-YARD LINE. AND HE HAS THE 25, 30, AND OUTSIDE THE 30. NICE RECOVERY THERE BY HEYO. BYU SETTING UP FIRST DOWN AND 10. Greg: BACK IN THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER, BROUGHT TO YOU BY JCW, THE BURGER BOYS, BEGINNING THE SECOND HALF HOUR OF THE SHOW, BRINGING IN THE ASSISTANT HEAD COACH, AND LINEBACKER COACH, ED LAMB. AND GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN. THE LAST WAS NINE DAYS AGO, AND WE DIDN’T SEE YOU BEFORE. SO A LITTLE BIT OF CATCHING UP TO DO. LAST WEEK, BYU WAS 2 AND 3 HEADING TO TAMPA, AND NOW 3 AND 4 HEADING TO LOGAN. HOW DO YOU LIKE WHERE BYU SITS TODAY?>>Jeff: I THINK SOMETIMES, THE EBB AND FLOW OF THE SEASON, IT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THE PREVIOUS GAME SO. I FEEL GOOD ABOUT THE THINGS THAT WE ACCOMPLISHED IN THE LAST GAME, AND WE ARE BEHIND WITH OVERALL WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE, BUT SATISFACTORY. Greg: HEADING INTO THE GAME, YOU WERE TRYING TO SHAKE OFF THE LOSS TO TAMPA. AND CAN YOU TAKE US BACK TO THAT SPAN OF TIME?>>THAT WAS A REALLY LOW POINT FOR THE COACHES AND THE PLAYERS. AND I FELT LIKE EVERY MAN ON THE TEAM, THE PLAYERS AND THE COACHES HAD A SHARE OF THE LOSS. THERE WERE A LOT OF DIFFICULT DISCUSSIONS AND CHANGES MADE.? AND I THINK THAT THE PLAYERS RESPONDED AND WE RALLIED TOGETHER.>>THE CHANGES, WHAT DO YOU THINK WERE THE MOST EFFECTIVE IN GETTING THE RESULTS?>>Ed: THE MOST EFFECTIVE, THAT’S A GOOD QUESTION. BUT KALANI USED THE WORD BEFORE, AGGRESSIVE, AND I FELT LIKE THERE WAS A CHANGE IN THE AGGRESSIVENESS OF BOTH OUR OFFENSE AND DEFENSE.>>> PERSONNEL WISE, A COUPLE OF THINGS JUMP OUT. MOVING AROUND A LITTLE BIT. AND IS THAT GOING TO BE A LONG-TERM DECISION AS A GROUP?>>Ed: I THINK IT’S GOOD, MANDEL.>>I RECRUITED HIM BACK — AND THEN ISAIAH HERRON, AND THEN — COMING ON STRONG, AND SO WE HAVE AN EMERGING BENEATH THERE, AND THE RETURN OF CHRIS WILCOX THIS WEEK FOR PRACTICE. SO THAT OPENED UP THE DOOR, AND THEN PART OF THE AGGRESSIVENESS, SAFETY AND DOING THINGS WITH IT.>>SO YOU BROUGHT UP CHRIS WILCOX, AND AS WELL.>>Ed: HE HAS BEEN BATTLING MINOR INJURIES WELL, AND ESPECIALLY IN THE FRESHMAN CAMPAIGN, A LOT OF THE DETAILS WE ORCKED ON DAILY, KILL COMING BACK FROM SOME OF THE CHALLENGES.>>WITH WARNER, ARE WE LOOKING FOR A FOUR-GAME SITUATION FOR THOSE GUYS?>>I HOPE SO, THE FIRST PRIORITY IS TO PUT THE BEST PRODUCT ON THE FIELD EVERY GAME. BUT THE OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL. BUT THOSE ARE THE FIRST TEAM GUYS, AND WE’RE GOING TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO MAXIMIZE WHAT THEY GIVE THE COUGARS LONG-TERM.>>LOOKING REALLY GOOD IN PRACTICE LAST WEEK, AND I FEEL GOOD ABOUT HAVING HIM BACK TOO.>> TOO. Greg: YOU CAN’T WIN A GAME WITH EMOTIONALISM. BUT YOU FOCUSED ON THE INTENSITY, AND I THINK THAT YOU HAD THAT, AND IS IT MORE INVESTMENT WITH BOISE STATE?>>I MIGHT DISAGREE — I AGREE WITH HIM IN THE SENSE THAT EVERY TEAM SHOULD BE A REFLECTION OF THEIR HEAD COACH. AND I THINK THAT THEY LOOK FOR COMPOSURE AND EXCITEMENT. AT ALL TIMES, PASSIONATE AND TEAMS PLAY LIKE THAT, AND THERE ARE OTHER HEAD COACHES WINNING FACIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THAT WAY, AND I THOUGHT THAT THEY RESPONDED TO THAT PASSION.>>CAN THAT BE REPLICATED DOWN THE LINE?>>I THINK SO. THERE’S A GROWTH AND A REALIZATION WITH EACH TEAM, WHO THE LEADERS ARE, AND UP FRONT, AND LEADING THE WAY, AND TALKING ABOUT PASSION, AND OBVIOUSLY, COACH SITAKE, AND THE CHALLENGE IS TO KEEP THAT GOING.>>LOOKING BACK AT THE BOISE STATE GAME, BYU WAS SCORELESS IN THE SECOND AND FOURTH QUARTERS, AND THE THIRD WAS THE GAME-CHANGER, 21-NOTHING.>>WE FELT MISTAKE AT HALFTIME, MOVING THE BALL WELL, DOWN 10-7, AND THE OPENING DRIVE WHERE WE CONNECT ON THIRD DOWNS, WHERE WE WERE CREATING SITUATION WAS THE DEFENSE, AND WE FELT OFFENSIVELY, WE WERE ABLE TO RUN THE BALL. AND THROW THE BACK, AND THE SCORE WASN’T RIGHT YET IN THE WAY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.>>BYU HELD UP. AND YOU WERE ABLE TO LOWS THE GAME WITH BOISE STATE, WITH 2 HINS TO PLAY, NOT BEFORE COULD YOU TELL US, AND VIDEO OF YOU, AND DISCUSSION, AND HOW DID THOSE CONVERSATIONS GO?>>OUR DECISIONSESS, WE NEEDED A HARD TO WIN, AND THERE WAS TOO MUCH TIME AND POOR FIELD POSITION, AND NEEDED BY THE OPPONENT TO PUSH THE GAME. SO WE REALLY FELT LIKE WHETHER IT’S ONE YARD TO WIN OR ONE FOOT TO WIN, WE FELT GOOD ABOUT IT. AND WE GOT THE PRACTICE, AND THE RIGHT PERSONNEL IN THERE, THERE ARE DEFENSIVE AND OFFENSIVE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD. AND COACH SITAKE FELT GREAT ABOUT IT.>>YOU ARE THE LINEBACKER COACH AND THE SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR. AND WHAT’S THE GENESIS?>>WELL, THE GENESIS IS, WHEN I WAS THE HEAD COACH OF SOUTHERN UTAH AND WE WERE GETTING THE PROGRAM GOING, AND AT TIMES WE DIDN’T HAVE THE PERSONNEL TO MATCH UP. SO WE NEEDED HELP, AND STEVE CLARK WAS THE COORDINATOR, AND WITH SPACES, THEN HERE, THE FIRST TIME WE USED T. WE USED IT AS KIND OF A SUBSTITUTION LOOK, SO WE WANTED THE OPPONENT TO THINK THAT THE TEAM WAS COMING OUT AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH AND THEY HAD TO SCRAMBLE OUT OF THEIR DEFENSIVE FORMATION. Greg: IS THERE A SPECIAL TEEMS COMPONENT?>>Ed: YES, THERE’S A SPECIAL TEAMS COMPONENT TO IT. AND THEY CAN ADD SOMETHING TO COMPLIMENT THE OFFENSE, AND BE CAREFUL ABOUT IT, WE DON’T WANT TO SEND A MESSAGE THAT IT’S NOT COMPLIMENTARY TO OUR OFFENSE, BUT IT’S SOMETHING THAT IS HARD FOR THE OPPONENT TO PREPARE FOR AND HOPEFULLY ADD TO THE TEAM.>>>THE MOST ASSISTANT, HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT FIGURING OUT THE BEST WAY TO RUN THAT PLAY.>>IT’S REALLY ABOUT TAKING A FIRST LOOK AT WHAT THE WON’T IS GIVING US, AND THE SITUATION FOR THE GAME THERE, HOW TO TAKE THE BALL OFF OF THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE, YOU HAVE TO SNAP T. AND IT HAS TO COME OFF A LITTLE BIT. BUT IN TERMS OF THE SNAP AND WHAT THE OFFENSES ARE BUILT FOR, THE CLOSER WE CAN KEEP IT TO THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE THE BETTER. SO EVEN IF WE HAVE MORE PLAYS OUT OF THAT, THE BEST AND BUTTER IS THE QUARTERBACK.>>HE GETS ON THE FIELD IN THIS FORMATION, AND HOW MUCH OF THIS WILL BE VIEWED AS THE MOMENTUM?>>Ed: THE WAY WE SAID, AUSTIN SECURED THE FOOTBALL. AND HE DID, AND HE DID A GREAT JOB, AND AUSTIN IS CARRYING THE FOOTBALL. AND KHYRIS IS CARRYING AUSTIN AND THE FOOTBALL. AND DION, HE IS GETTING IN ON THAT TOO. FOR THE FINAL PUSH. Greg: AND YOU OPERATE THAT, WITH A COUPLE OF THE LINEBACKERS. AND ANOTHER INTERESTING THING, A PRODUCTIVE THING, FOR BYU AGAINST BOISE STATE. TIME FOR A BREAK H. WHEN WE COME BACK, LOOKING BACK AT SOME OF THE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FROM BYU’S LAST GAME AS THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER CONTINUES RIGHT HERE ON BYUTV. Greg: BACK ON THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER, WE VISIT WITH BYU SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR, LINEBACKER COACH AND ASSISTANT HEAD COACH, ED LAMB, COMING OFF OF THE BY ANNUAL UTAH STATE GAME ON SATURDAY. A BIT UNUSUAL, BUT EVERY TEEM DEALING WITH MULTIPLE BYE WEEKS THIS SEASON, AND THE BUYS FOR THE SECOND ONE IN OCTOBER?>>>TRYING TO GET THE PLAYERS HEALTHY AND WITH SPEED. AND IT DIDN’T TURN OUT THE WAY WE WANTED IT TO, SO I THINK THAT WE HAVE TO GET MORE PHYSICAL IN OUR PREPARATIONS AND I THINK THE WAY THINGS RESULT NOT THE WAY THAT WE WOULD WANT. AND JUST CHANGE FOR CHANGE’S SAKE CAN BE GOOD. AND WE EXPECT A DIFFERENT RESULT. AND WE’RE GOING TO DO THINGS DIFFERENT THIS BYE WEEK. Greg: WAS THE GAME WITH BOISE STATE MORE PHYSICAL THAN IT HAS BEEN?>>Ed: IT WAS, AND THEY MADE A DECISION AFTER THAT LOSS TO SOUTH FLORIDA THAT, THEY WERE GOING TO COMPETE AND PRACTICE HARD AND THAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO THEM. NOT THE OUTCOME OF THE NEXT GAME, BUT JUST THE WAY THEY PRACTICED. Greg: HITTING THE GROUND –>>Ed: YES, THEY WANT TO KEEP EACH OTHER OFF THE GROUND. BUT THERE ARE STILL GOING TO BE FANTASTIC CONTACT LEVEL PREPARATION WITH OUT GOING TO THE GROUND. Greg: ONE OF THE THINGS, SECURITY ON OFFENSE, COMBINED WITH TENACITY ON DEFENSE. FIVE TIMES IN SEVEN GAMES, TWO TURN-OVER FREE GAMES. BUT TAKING AWAY THE TOP 15 IN INTERCEPTIONS AS WELL.>>Ed: SOME OF THAT, LAST YEAR, WE LOOK A LOOK AT THOSE NUMBERS, AND WE MADE A POINT, AND THE OTHER THING, WE PLAYED A LOT OF DEFENSIVE SNAPS, SO SOMETIMES CHASING AFTER STATS CAN GET DANGEROUS IN THAT WAY, AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE PLAY OUR STYLE OF DEFENSE, AND IF AN OPPONENT GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY, THE LINEBACKERS HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB. Greg: INTERCEPTIONS COURTESY THE LINEBACKERS, SIBLINGS IN THIS CASE, ISAIAH AND JACKSON KAUFUSI.>>Ed: WE DON’T THINK ABOUT WHO IS MAKING THE INTERCEPTION, BUT WITH THE LINEBACKER GROUP, THEY KEEP EACH OTHER HEALTHY AND FRESH AND THEY’RE DELIVERING. THE ACCESS THAT THE DEFENSE HAS HAD. Greg: JACKSON KAUFUSI, IF THERE’S ONE THING LACKING MAYBE, THE SCORES AFTER CAKE AWAYS. A LOT IN THE SEASON, AND POINTS AFTER.>>I THINK THAT’S THE MARK OF A TEAM HAS FIGHTING TOGETHER FOR VICTORY, AND SOMETIMES ON A TEAM THAT’S NOT VERY SUCCESSFUL, STOPS TO LEAD TO THEM NOT BEING OPPOSED LIKE TWO DIFFERENT TEAMS. THE OFFENSE WILL SCORE, AND THEN THE DEFENSIVE LINE WILL SCORE. THE FAKE AWAY, THAT’S THE MARK OF A BETTER TEAM.>>BEFORE WE HUT THE BOISE STATE GAME COMPLETELY TO BED, WE ARE LOOKING BACK ON THE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK?>>Ed: THAT WAS THE MOST THAT SHINED ON THE TEAMS. SKYLAR WAS ABLE TO PUT THE BALL IN THE CORNER, AND SOME BOISE STATE DEEP STARTING FIELD POSITIONS. THE BALL OUT OF THE END ZONE AND INSIDE OF THEIR OWN 5 ON THE CORNER, AND THEN THE KICKOFF GUYS DID A GREAT JOB. Greg: DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK, KHYRIS TONGA.>>Ed: THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS BECAME, HE WAS THROWING, LAST WEEK, THE WEEK BEFORE, HOW SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT. WE HAVE A PHILOSOPHY, YOU DON’T KNOW UNTIL YOU FLOW OR YOU DON’T KNOW UNTIL YOU GO. THE GUYS KNOW THE TACKLES THEY CAN MAKE IF THEY CAN THROW THEIR BODY IN FROM.>>LAST NIGHT, AARON ROGERS, AND HE LITERALLY THREW HIS BODY AT ROGERS ON THE SIDELINE TO MAKE A PLAY THAT I DIDN’T THINK THAT HE COULD MAKE.>>Ed: ON OUR SIDE LINE TOO. LOVE TO SEE THE GUYS. Greg: TIME FOR THE PLAY-BY-PLAY. BYU SPORTS NATION, COMING UP ON THE FINAL SEGMENT OF THIS WEEK’S SHOW, COACH LAMB WILL TALK ABOUT THIS SATURDAY’S GAME. YOU’RE ON THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER, BROUGHT TO YOU BY JCW Greg: WE’RE BACK IN OUR FINAL SEGMENT OF THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER THIS WEEK. THIS SATURDAY, BYU, AT 3 AND 4, UTAH STATE, THE AGGIES, AND SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR, ED LAMB WITH US, AND COACH LAMB, WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF THE AS?>>Ed: I THINK THEY’RE A REALLY GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM AND I DON’T YOU PUT MUCH STOCK AT WHAT HAPPENED AT AIR FORCE. IT WAS A COLD AND WINDY GAME THAT MAY HAVE TAKEN SOME OF THE TEAM OUT OF THEARIOUSARIOUS OFFICE, AND ALSO UTAH STATE’S OFFENSE. BUT I WATCHED THE GAME ON TELEVISION AND NOW VIDEO, AND I THINK THIS IS THE BEST AIR FORCE TEAM. THE SPECIAL TEAMS DID A GREAT JOB, AND UTAH STATE DROPPED ONE, AND IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IN IT WAS PLAYED ON A DIFFERENT DAY. THROUGH THEY HAVE OUR FULL ATTENTION, THEY HAVE WORKED US IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS, AND IT’S AN IMPORTANT GAME FOR US. Greg: QUARTERBACK, JORDAN LOVE, HE HAS NEVER REALLY BEEN A RUNNING THREAT. BUT LAST YEAR, FIVE TOUCHDOWNS, AND WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HIM AND JORDAN LOVE RIGHT NOW?>>Ed: HE’S THE SAME GUY ON THE OFFENSE, AND THEY’RE RUNNING THE SAME FORMATION, AND THE GUY THAT MAKES THEM TICK, BUT WE HAVE GONE THROUGH THE SAME THINGS WITH OUR OFFENSE, HOW MUCH RUNNING IN THE PAST AND WHAT SETS UP THE OTHER. THERE HAS BEEN SOME OF THAT. Greg: A COUPLE OF GOOD RUNNING BACKS, NUMBER 21, BOTH HAVE MORE THAN FIVE YARDS PER CARRY RIGHT NOW.>>YES, SPECIAL TEAM. AND QUARTERBACKS.>>OF LEANED INTO BOISE STATE, AND KALANI WAS HAPPY WITH IT, AND UTAH STATE WON BACK-TO-BACK GAMES AGAINST BYU. AND THEY LAST WON BACK-TO-BACK IN THE EARLY 70s. BUT CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE PLAYER’S SENSE OF RIDE IN THE GAME, AND IS THERE A VALUE IN HISTORY?>>WE HAVE TO SET THE TABLE, AND LET THE YOUNG GUYS KNOW, THEY ARE YOUNG GUYS WITH A LOT ON THEIR MINDS, AND EVERY GUY WHO WAS IN A KEY ROLE THIS YEAR WASN’T ON THE FIELD LAST YEAR. SO YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE HISTORY AND THE TRENDS, AND IN THE END, IT’S THEM WHO DECIDE ARE THEY HUNGRY ENOUGH TO PLAY FOR A VICTORY?>>FOR BYU’S OFFENSE, YOU SPOKE ABOUT HOW MUCH OF IT IS PREDICATED ON ZACH SELJAAS, AND NOT ONLY IS HE OUT. BUT BYU DOING WHAT IT’S DOING, WITH THE PERSONNEL?>>I THINK IT SHOWS THE TOUGHNESS OF THE TEAM. A TOUGH TEAM DOESN’T ALWAYS HAVE TO BE GOOD. WE HAVE NOT BEEN GOOD ENOUGH THIS SEASON. WE WANT TO BE BETTER, BUT WHAT TREMENDOUS TOUGHNESS FOR THE GUYS TO GO OUT AND FIGHT FOR THE WIN, AND THAT’S WHAT WE HAVE TO DO THIS WEEK. Greg: ALL RIGHT, BYU AND UTAH STATE IN LOGAN THIS SATURDAY. ONLY SEVEN TIMES HAVE COUGARS AND THE AGGIES PLAYED IN THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER. GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND.>>Ed: THANK YOU. Greg: THAT WILL DO IT FOR ANOTHER SEGMENT OF THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER. NEXT WEEK, DEFENSIVE LINE COACH, ILAISA TUIAKI. I’M GREG WRUBELL, AND SEE YOU NEXT MONDAY RIGHT HERE, THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER, BROUGHT TO YOU BY JCW, THE BURGER BOYS.
