ABC13’s Morning News for May 16, 2020

>>>THIS MORNING, OUR TOOLS HAVE BEEN SURVEYING DAMAGE ACROSS THE AREA IN THE LAST 90 MINUTES OR SO, THIS VIDEO WAS TWEETED OUT. A PROGRAM PO LEAN GOT BLOWN OUT OF A YARD IN PEARLAND. WE HAVE A LOOK AT THE DAMAGE. >>Reporter: GOOD MORNING, ERICA. WE HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE PLACE THIS MORNING. WE WERE LAPORTE. DOZENS OF PEOPLE WERE WITHOUT POWER. THE ENERGY MAP SAID IT WASN’T GOING TO BE RESTORED UNTIL 12:30, BUT IT WAS RESTORED TO TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND HOMES. WE WERE IN PEARLAND BEFORE THAT. I WANT TO SHOW YOU SOME OF THE DAMAGE WE SAW. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS FIRST VIDEO. IT SHOWS A TRAMPOLINE THAT BLEW OUT OF SOMEONE’S YARD ACROSS THE STREET AND GOT MANGLED UP IN THE TREE AND THE WINDS WERE HIGH OUT THERE THIS MORNING. PEARLAND POLICE WERE OUT THERE AND THEY TRIED TO GET IT UNTANGLED AND OUT OF THE THE ROADWAY. THERE’S GOING TO BE A LOT OF PEOPLE LOOKING FOR THEIR THINGS IN THE PEARLAND AND SUNRISE LAKE NEIGHBORHOOD. WE SAW INTERTUBES, LOOKED LIKE IT BELONGED INTO SOMEONE’S POOL, AND IT WAS BLOWN OUT OF THE STREET. A LOT OF THINGS WERE BLOWN INTO PLACES WHERE IT SHOULDN’T BE. LOOK AT THIS NEXT VIDEO. FENCES WERE BLOWN OVER, PARTS OF THE FENCES LYING IN THE STREET. WE SAW TREES THAT WERE BROKEN IN HALF. FORTUNATELY, NONE HAD FALLEN ON HOMES THAT WE SAW. IT DIDN’T SEEM LIKE THERE WAS ANY DAMAGE, THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN INJURY TO SOMEONE. IT DID STILL SCARE PEOPLE. THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO DO REPAIRS TO THEIR HOMES. THOSE FENCES, WE ALSO SPOKE TO SOMEONE WHO HAD HIS WINDOWS BLOWN OUT. I WANT YOU TO HEAR FROM HIM. >>IT’S SHOCKING FOR ME. I THOUGHT LIKE THE TORNADO HIT SOME AREAS A WEEK OR SO AGO. I THOUGHT THAT’S WHAT WAS HAPPENING HERE. MY HOUSE SEEMED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO LIFT OFF OF THE FOUNDATION. >>>WE’RE NOW NEAR THE FAIRMONT PARKWAY. WE’RE LOOKING FOR THAT. WE’LL BRING YOU THE LATEST AS SOON AS WE FIND IT AND TELL YOU THE ROADS YOU NEED TO AVOID. >>>THANKS. TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT MICAH AND HER PHOTOGRAPHER WERE ABLE TO CAPTURE THIS. YOU CAN SEE AT 4:30 THIS MORNING, YOU CAN SEE WHEN THE LIGHTNING BOLT CAME STRAIGHT DOWN. YOU CAN SEE EXACTLY WHAT A POWERFUL BLAST THAT LOOKED TO BE. THIS IS VIDEO FROM AROUND 3:15 IN THE RICHMOND AREA. THIS IS A LEADING EDGE, IT MOVED EAST TRIGGERING THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS. >>>AND BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER, THEY DECIDED TO CLOSE TESTING SIGNS TODAY. THE JUDGE KP JUDGE SAYS THE TESTING SITES WILL REOPEN AT THE EARLIEST CONVENIENCE AFTER THE STORM PASSES. EVERYONE WHO HAS APPOINTMENTS SCHEDULED TODAY WILL BE CONTACTED TO RESCHEDULE THEIR APPOINTMENTS. AND IN HARRIS COUNTY THEY’LL BE CLOSING TESTING SITES AS WELL. AND TEST SITES SHOULD BE COMPLETED TODAY AND TOMORROW. MOBILE TEST WILL GO START BACK UP ON MONDAY. >>>AND THE WEATHER CONTINUES TO AFFECT OUR WEEKEND PLANS. AND FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS WERE GOING TO START TODAY AT THE STADIUM HAVE BEEN MOVED TO MONDAY BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER. IT’S HAPPENING FROM 2 PM TO 7:00 P.M. AND THE FOOD WILL BE GIVEN IN THE YELLOW LOT. >>>AND THIS COMES AFTER SELLER STORMS. CHECK OUT THE SWAMP SHACK NEAR THE ARENA. THE RESTAURANT ORDER SAID THE FIRST FLOOR FLOODED OUT IN ABOUT 30 MINUTES. THE KITCHEN AND BAR AREAS ARE RAISED INSIDE SO, THEY’RE NOT IMPACTED. >>IT HAPPENS TWO TO THREE TIMES A YEAR. EVERY TIME WE HAVE A MAJOR STORM AND THE EQUIPMENT, THE CITY MANAGES, THE PUMPING STATION OVER HERE, IF IT DOESN’T WORK, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS. >>THE WATER CAME UP FROM THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM NEARBY. IT WILL TAKE A DAY OR TWO TO DRY UP AND CLEAN OUT. >>>WELL, TODAY’S STORMS COME AS PEOPLE ARE DEALING WITH WIDE WATER IN THEIR HOMES YESTERDAY. TAKE A LOOK AT THE APARTMENT COMPLEX NEAR EDGE BROOK. THEY SAW 60 TO 80 UNITS WITH ONE TO TWO INCHES OF WATER INSIDE. SOME PEOPLE LOST POWER. RESIDENTS TELL US THIS HAPPENS A LOT. >>>YOU CAN GIVE US SOMETHING LIKE, WE TRY TO GET PEOPLE TO HELP US TOO. >>>RESIDENTS TRIED USING SANDBAGS AT ONE POINT TO STOP THE WATER. >>>YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN FELL IN THE PASADENA AREA AND THAT LED TO HIGH WATER IN MANY NEIGHBORHOODS INCLUDING THIS APARTMENT COMPLEX ON SOUTH SCHAEFFER. THIS CAUSED A MESS INSIDE. IN PASADENA YOU CAN SEE THIS GUY USING A KAYAK TO PADDLE ACROSS THE FLOODED STREET. THIS IS SPENCER HIGHWAY, AND THIS IS A GOOD TIME TO DOWNLOAD THE NEWS APP, YOU CAN WATCH US STRAIGHT FROM THAT APP WHEN BAD WEATHER HAD THE YOUR AREA. >>>THANKFULLY, THE ACTIVITY IS ALL GONE AND OUT OF THE AREA. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL CAME FROM THE STRONG STORMS LAST NIGHT. LET’S GO BACK OVER RADAR AND SHOW YOU. THE MAIN SQUALL LINES ARE IN THE GULF OF MEXICO AND THIS IS IN THE MESA CONDUCTIVE VORTEX. IT MEANS A MID- TO UPPER LEVEL SPIN. THERE’S A TORNADO WARNING NOW EAST OF BEAUMONT, EAST OF US. THANK GOODNESS IT CAME THROUGH AND IT WASN’T PRONOUNCED THROUGH SOUTHEAST TEXAS. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL DID FALL IN PARTS OF HARRIS COUNTY DOWN TOWARDS COASTAL PARTS OF HARRIS COUNTY AND INLAND, GALVESTON COUNTY, FIVE TO SIX INCHES IN SPOTS, SUGARLAND, YOU SAW IT BRIEFLY TOO. THE STORMS FROM LAST NIGHT, UNDERCUT. THE SQUALL LINE WAS UNDER APPROACH AND IT WEAKENED IT. IT WEAKENED AS IT MOVED THROUGH SOUTHEAST TEXAS. FUTURE TRACK HAS ACTIVITY CLEARING, WE MAY SEE WRAP AROUND BANDING WHICH MEANS A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS AND RUMBLES OF THUNDER MIDDAY TO THIS EVENING. CANSES ARE MINIMAL BECAUSE WE’VE LOST A LOT OF INSTABILITY. CAN’T RULE OUT A STRAY RAIN CHANCE HERE AND THERE. HERE’S ANOTHER LOOK AT FUTURECAST. IT DOES A GREAT JOB. THIS IS WHAT WE’RE LIKELY TO SEE A STRAY SHOWER AND RUMBLES OF THUNDER. I’LL DROP THE CHANCES TOMORROW. STAY TUNED FOR THE LATEST ON THAT. 40% FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW AND 30% AND 86 ON MONDAY, WARMING UP BUT AGAIN PLENTY OF SUNSHINE AFTER THESE TWO DAYS. WE’LL SEE RAIN CHANCES GO DOWN. THIS MORNING, THE RAIN CHANCES ARE LOWER AFTER THE STRONG STORMS LAST NIGHT. AND THE STORM TRACK DID A GOOD JOB. >>WE GOT LESS THAN AN INCH OF RAIN AND ADDITIONAL RAINFALL CAN’T BE RULED OUT. LIGHT AND STEADY, NOTHING THAT WILL CREATE MORE FLOODING ACROSS THE AREA AND LOOKING GREAT, I KNOW YESTERDAY, THE ARMOND BAYOU HAD RAPID RISES OF WATER THERE. THE WATER SHEDS ARE LOOKING FANTASTIC THIS MORNING. OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, YOU’LL BE ENCOUNTERING STEADY TO LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN SHOWERS. THE ROADS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN INUNDATED WITH WATER YESTERDAY, THE STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEMS WILL DO
